The crowd was gathered together and growing by the minute. No social distancing on this dusty road outside of Jerusalem. The people packed together to welcome Jesus. He would be their hero and save them from Roman oppression. Palm and fig branches were torn off trees and waved in the air. Shouts of “Hosanna! Hosanna!” -which means “Save Us! Save Us!” could be heard. The Apostle John tells us many of the attendees at this parade had witnessed the resurrection of Lazarus so they knew Jesus was capable of anything, including raising the dead to life. The people were excited, their hero had arrived.
But Jesus didn’t look like a hero, nothing was special about his clothes, his sandals, or even his beard- he looked like your average dude from Nazareth. We are never told there was something special about the way Jesus walked, talked, or ate his fish sandwich.
But there was something different about His animal. A victorious king would often return from battle riding a powerful steed. He would be welcomed by a swarming crowd to celebrate and honor their leader. Jesus was different.
Jesus was riding to victory, that is true, but not on a steed. Jesus rode a donkey. Jesus was riding toward victory that is true, but not toward a glimmering castle, his destination was a rugged cross. The palm wavers didn’t know that the victory Jesus would win was not against the Romans, his victory was against sin, death, and everlasting condemnation for them.
Jesus came as the humble servant to give himself for you. He died for your sins and for mine. Remarkably, this event had been planned from the beginning of time. As the forbidden fruit’s juices were still dripping off Adam’s chin, God’s plan of redemption was already underway, including the palm-lined parade.
Someone in this cheering crowd might have remembered that in Zephaniah this very scenario had been prophesied:
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
-Zephaniah 9:9
The people were joyfully crying out to Jesus. “Hosanna! Hosanna!” But some of the Pharisees told Jesus to tell his disciples to be quiet. Jesus replied…
“I tell you, if these were silent, even the stones would cry out.”
Join us Sunday, as we cry to our Lord “Hosanna! Hosanna! Save us! Save us!” Nothing can stop us from praising our King.

A message from Jackie...
This new Precept Bible Study is an 8-week class that I plan to start on April 7 and end on May 26th. It starts after Easter Sunday and ends before Memorial Day. There will be no Zero class this time, but I would be happy to do one if anyone is interested. This means your study of the first lesson will start on March 30/31.
It is a classic Precept format with an overview followed by chapter studies for each of the 5 chapters. I think after being in prophecy for so long, studying about our "sure salvation" will be a welcome respite.
This class will be on Zoom on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm. Tuesday is a coed class, Wednesday is a ladies only class. These classes will be kept in sync so you will be able to switch nights if you can't make the night you signed up for.
You will need to order your own book if you don't live in the Eagle/Gypsum area. The book is on Precept.org at <https://shop.precept.org/pages/1-peter-precept-upon-precept> You may choose your favorite Bible translation of ESV or NASB, either will work. Try to order your book immediately since we only have 2 weeks until you need to start your homework. Lesson One is available online for free if your book doesn't arrive on time.
The cost of the workbook is $18.00, plus shipping.
If you live in the Eagle/Gypsum area I would be happy to order your book along with mine, which saves a few dollars in shipping costs. Let me know ASAP if you want me to order your book for you.
