Beyond Cultural Competence to Embracing Cultural Humility: The Challenge of Diversity in a Culturally Pluralistic Society
In the final session of our Equity series, Mary Bacon, Ph.D. will talk about the difference between cultural competence and cultural humility, and the value of viewing the world from the multiple perspectives that diverse populations bring.

As we go on our life’s journey surrounded by the diverse socio-cultural groups with whom we occupy the planet, it is essential that we learn to view the world from the multiple perspectives that diverse populations bring, and profit from our experiences with them.

In this concluding session, we will reflect upon our beliefs, and examine how we can integrate what we know about ourselves with what we know about those with whom we interact so that we can foster a vision of acceptance that affirms the strengths that we all bring.

Tuesday, October 12, 6 to 7:30 pm

Historical Photos in Downtown Menlo Park
While shopping downtown one can now view ten large black and white photographs of old Menlo Park. Incorporated in 1927 (94 years ago) Menlo Park had an entirely different look. Photos of Sand Hill Road, of the first City Hall, the famous Menlo Camera Shop, and an aerial photo of Santa Cruz Avenue are amongst these gems of yesteryear.

The photos are proudly brought to you by the Menlo Park Historical Association (MPHA). Established in 1971, they have been diligently been collecting a variety of items about the town.

The photos can be found at 719 Santa Cruz Avenue, which is the former Village Stationers Store.
