“Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others…”
-St. John Paul II
Dear St. Rose School Families,
It has been a wonderful week in our halls! Today I arrived to festive balloons, heartfelt cards, a cheerful rendition of Happy Birthday and a sea of blue, my favorite color! Thank you so much for your kind and generous wishes. I count the St. Rose School family as one of my greatest blessings.
I am so inspired by the tireless efforts of our students and faculty. My congratulations to all for their tremendous efforts which are reflected in the report cards that will be sent home today. We are on an exceptional learning journey together. Your children are our top priority!
We are on the threshold of a very exciting time of the year-- Catholic Schools Week! Mrs. B has many terrific spirit and service activities planned so that we can celebrate, safely, as a school family and show our greater community all that makes St. Rose School such a special place. Please read all of the details in the Student Life Update.
This Sunday, January 31st, is an eventful day. We will host 2 virtual open houses -- one for grades K-4 and another for grades 5-8th. Our Preschool Open Houses will follow on Monday and 1st and Wednesday the 3rd. Enrollment in K-8 is strong, please continue to share the word and help us showcase our wonderful Preschool program.
At 1:30 p.m. on the 31st we will draw the winner of our Tuition Raffle. Thanks to all who have purchased a ticket. There's still time -- help us get to 250 sales -- if we do, the HSA will host a school wide pizza party under Nurse Bonnie's supervision. Teamwork!
Here are important things to note:
*2021-2022 Registration -- If you haven't done so yet, please register your child for the 2021-2022 school year by midnight tomorrow, January 30th at the discounted rated of $150. This will guarantee your child a seat. Registration opens to the public on January 31st at which time we can no longer save a seat. If you have questions please contact Mrs. Coppola, admissions@srles.com. We genuinely hope you will stay with us!
*Sacrament of First Reconciliation will take place for Mrs. Heyder's 2nd Grade class tomorrow, January 30th at 9:30 a.m. in the church. Only one parent/guardian will be able to attend with each child. Let us keep our 2nd graders in special prayer during this important time in their lives.
I'd like to give a special shout out to our 8th graders and their families. The challenges of Covid have had an impact on your last year with us but be assured that we have many great activities planned to make this a memorable, happy time in your life. You light up our halls and our hearts. We love you!
It looks like a chilly weekend, stay warm and enjoy your family time. I look forward to our festivities in the coming week.

St. Rose School in National News!
A photo of some St. Rose students holding the American flags gifted by our wonderful Knights of Columbus on Veteran's Day appeared in the January 2021 issue of Columbia Magazine which goes to millions of Knights around the country.
Service is at the heart of all we do at St. Rose School. Here's a flashback photo of our current 8th grade class as 7th graders helping Sister Thaddeus with the Food Drive. This spirit of giving continues in our halls and will be especially at active during Catholic Schools Week.
Let's hear it for our 8th graders -- Hip! Hip! Hooray! You got your sweatshirts today! May they wrap you in God's never-ending love!
STUDENT LIFE UPDATE
by Mrs. B
Dear St. Rose Families,
Let the second half of our journey, through the 2020-2021 school year, begin with
celebration! Today, I am sharing our plans for Catholic Schools Week at St. Rose.
The many things we have achieved the first half of this year wouldn’t be possible without your support, cooperation, dedication, and most important your belief and trust in Catholic Education! This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service. We will weave this theme throughout our week and activities; we hope, as you look through the list of events for the week, you will be with us in spirit!
Sunday, January 31st---Celebrating Your Parish Day
Catholic schools benefit all year long from the religious guidance, prayers, and support parishes provide. At St. Rose we have been immensely blessed to have Monsignor Weiss shepherd all of us, especially our children, in the ways of our faith! What a perfect way to celebrate by joining with your family and watching the Live Stream of a Mass; it’s the inspiration we can all use during these times! This is also the official first day of Catholic Schools Week, and we are proud to open our doors, virtually, to the bigger community to take tours and learn more about why we all love St. Rose School!
Monday, February 1st---Celebrating Your Community Day
We always kick off Catholic Schools Week on Monday with our SRS SPIRIT! Students and Staff DRESS DOWN in RED and WHITE for a donation of two nonperishable food item. As the cold weather sets in and amidst the pandemic, our food pantry needs to be restocked more often; this is a great opportunity for your child to have fun while helping us serve those in need! A big part of Catholic education is learning the importance of service to others; fostering the values and faith gained by being blessed to have a Catholic education.
Our food donations will go to Faith Food Pantry; a ministry located right on our St. Rose Campus. This is just the beginning of our community involvement and service for the week! Some of our middle schoolers will be spending time on Monday creating craft bags and how-to videos to be sent to C.H. Booth Library in Newtown to be shared with young readers visiting the library.
They will also be making story time videos to be shared on Wednesday, by the library, to celebrate National Read Aloud Day!
Our annual PIG RACES will take off that day too!! We will be safely competing two classes at a time in the Gathering Hall; and as we move through the brackets look forward to seeing which PIG will emerge victorious! If time runs short, we will take some races over to Wednesday for the final heats.
We begin Monday morning, as we do with all things, with prayer. Following prayer, we welcome a new tradition, The SRS Spirit Stroll, led by our school leaders, the Class of 2021. While our younger students line the hallways, with pom-poms, our 8th graders will take the Spirit Stroll through the hallways to the cheers of their peers and young friends as they are announced over the PA!
We hope you will join us for the next HSA (Zoom) Meeting on Wednesday, February 10th at 6:30pm which will include updates from the HSA and school leadership. An email was sent out today with Zoom meeting details. We welcome any questions, kudos or feedback and please ask that you submit questions or topics you would like covered in advance by emailing hsa@srles.com.
We will be finishing Catholic Schools Week with appreciation for our teachers and staff. The HSA will be providing gifts and a special catered lunch for teachers and staff on Friday, February 5th. We believe we can speak for all the parents in expressing our heartfelt thanks for our teachers during this school year!
Please send in heartfelt messages of thanks to each of the teachers and staff who work with your kid(s) on Friday, February 5th. Let's shower these dedicated, hard-working people with some love and gratitude! It doesn't have to be fancy - it will mean the most if it's from the heart. We know it will brighten their week.
Have a great weekend and remember: spring is only 50 days away!
