Christian Formation: Pentecost at Home
Pentecost, which we celebrate this Sunday, is the day in which we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is not just an ancient story, it is also a story about us, today and the ways that we are called to share in Jesus’ ministry. It reminds us of the gift of the Holy Spirit which sustains us, comforts us, empowers us, and guides us to live in the ways that God calls us to live. As we celebrate Pentecost virtually we remember that the Holy Spirit connects us. We also wanted to share some resources for you and your family to consider ways to learn more and create a thoughtful Pentecost at home. You can find them on the church's social media pages or  check them out here !

Congo Helping Hands Update
Some of the PW members have recently spoken with Woody Collins; Director of Congo Helping Hands. Woody is the person who we work with for our Todd and Betsy Hobbie Nursing Scholarships. Nursing classes have been temporarily suspended due to COVID. However, there is a great need of supplies for sanitation such as hand washing buckets and masks. Their supplies are meager. There are five ventilators in the entire Republic of Congo. Donations can be made easily through the church. Just earmark your donation for Congo Helping Hands COVID supplies. Christy can forward it on.  Thank you.
Current Needs for the Food Program of Cooperative Christian Ministry
CCM continues to operate a drive-through pantry here at the Crisis Center, and all of our satellite pantries are back open, using a similar model. Currently, it is best to deliver the food to the Crisis Center between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Mondays-Fridays.

Our current big needs are:
Any kind of canned vegetables (except green beans)
Any kind of canned beans (except green)
       Soup
       Rice
       Spaghetti noodles

As always, we especially seek low sodium items, no-added-sugar items, and whole grain items.

Right now, we have plenty of the following:
       Canned Green Beans
       Dried Beans
Mixed Fruit
       Macaroni & Cheese
       Cereal
       Toilet paper and paper towels
       Plastic Grocery bags (!!!)
Thank you for the continued support from our church partners.
The Crisis Center at 246 Country Club Drive NE in Concord serves as the warehouse for most of the food. We will gladly accept all donations at that site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Bethel Baptist Helping Hands Food Pantry, located at 1209 1/4 Opal Street in Kannapolis, will gladly accept donations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday and Thursday.
The food pantry located at Westford UMC on Highway 49 and the Kannapolis Food Pantry at West Point Baptist Church will accept donations on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m..
The Feeding Our Souls Food Pantry at Bethel UMC in Midland, North Kannapolis Baptist Church Food Pantry and the New Life Baptist Food Pantry will accept donations by calling the church in advance.
Deacons Response to Covid - 19
Since the stay-at-home order was issued in NC, our Deacons have approved discretionary funds for the following:
* $750 to supplement our Coltrane Webb Back Pack program with Food Lion gift cards
*$3,000 to help Meals on Wheels create additional shelf stable meals, and
*$1,000 to CCM for the food pantry

Additionally, Deacons have been calling our older adult members along with our Visitation team to chat and receive prayer requests. We will continue to listen for the needs of our congregants and our community and respond with Christ's love. If you are aware of additional needs or would like to become involved with these and/or other efforts, please let Lynne Keel or Janna Mitchell know.
