Faithful Citizenship and Election Resources
If you spend any time watching television, reading the newspaper, listening to the radio, or browsing social media, you know that the election season is in full swing. Election Day is November 3 and in addition to the presidential election, there are many important races that will take place at the local, state, and federal levels.

We hope that you will find these resources helpful to you and the students and families you serve. If you have any questions about the resources, if you need help accessing them, or if you have any other questions or concerns related to voting and elections, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

God bless,

Virtual Instruction Attendance Policy
Audits will now require that your school have a statement regarding how you will track attendance for those students learning virtually. Here is verbiage you can add to your current attendance policy:

Virtual or blended course offerings may use nontraditional data, such as course progress, engagement, synchronous instructional time, system activity, student logs, etc. to create an equivalency that can meet the rules of traditional reporting. Teachers will continue to take daily attendance when students are in session based on their cohort assignment for each course using our Powerschool student information system.
Congratulations
We know this has been a difficult enrollment time for many of our schools as many parents decided to keep their pre-school children home this year. However, we would like to congratulate the following schools on great enrollment success for the 2020-2021 year:
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin - Pulaski - Up 9%
Sacred Heart Catholic School - Shawano - Up 13%
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy- Marinette/Peshtigo - Up 19%

And hats off to St. Mary’s in Algoma who are up 60% over last year!!! Due to hard work and a team effort by the Families and Staff, the school surpassed its goal!

CHOICE and SNSP updates
New this newsletter:
Third Friday in September (September 18) - PSCP

All schools participating in the Choice or SNSP Program take the third Friday in September count of Choice students enrolled in their school. Schools use this information to complete the third Friday September Count Report in OAS.
WISEdata requires schools to verify that all Choice students are properly flagged in the school's SIS for the third Friday of September Count Date. For a student to be included in the third Friday of September Count in the SIS, the student must be enrolled in the school by the count date and the student must be assigned to a valid grade for his or her school. The student must also have been marked as Present or Absent for Receiving Services.

SNSP

The school must submit to the DPI all eligible SNSP 2020-21 student applications and transfer request forms that haven't previously been submitted to the DPI. Only applications and transfer requests that have been determined eligible by this date may be submitted to DPI and counted in the 3rd Friday in September Pupil Count Report. As a reminder, in order for an application to be eligible, the school must have received a copy of the IEP/services plan in response to the school's email requesting verification that the pupil met the SNSP IEP/services plan requirement.
Previous updates:
By the First Day of School
  • Private schools participating in the Choice Program must complete background checks prior to employing any individual at the school and every 5 years after the date of the previous background check (see Criminal Background Checks Bulletin and Training 6-12: Criminal Background Checks).

  •  Please make sure your Powerschool data has been updated to reflect all students enrolled.

Food Service Information
Project 10 Million
Students who are currently eligible for free or reduced lunches can now get a Free hotspot from Sprint for Internet access.

To apply parents need to go to:
 Free and Reduced Lunch
As you are making your decisions regarding which U.S. Department of Agriculture meal programs to utilize this school year, no matter what program you decide on, your school needs to continue to collect Free and Reduced Price Household Meal Applications OR Alternate Household Income Forms (for Community Eligibility Provision schools), determine eligibility, extend benefits, run Direct Certification, and complete Verification. The purpose behind this is to ensure you have the information needed for the change over to the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (when USDA funding runs out) and for individual student data reporting purposes (if your school is required to do state reporting through WISE). Questions regarding this can be directed to the School Nutrition Team at dpifns@dpi.wi.gov.

School Safety Tip Line Launched by DOJ
The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of School Safety launched a new threat reporting tip line on its new website, titled: “Speak Up, Speak Out.” The tipline can be found here.

The new tip line allows people to call-in threats of school violence and related concerns to the DOJ. School administrators must register with the DOJ to receive copies of the reported threats to their school. You can register with the system here.
When you register your school, it will ask for your school district. You can type “N/A” in the field.

You will also be asked to fill out the school district administrator’s contact information. You can fill it out with another contact at your school, like a vice principal or dean of students. This is just to ensure that if the primary contact is unreachable that the DOJ can contact someone else.
MAP
MAP Proctor reminders
Some of you are already well underway with MAP assessments. Just a couple ideas/reminders.
We do not regard this as a “high stakes” test but a formative assessment used to guide your instruction. With this in mind:
  • Don’t hesitate to break the tests up into smaller segments, especially for younger students or children who have a hard time concentrating for more than 15 minutes.
  • Use the accommodations and modifications where needed.
  • Use a practice test before beginning and for those who are doing it for the first time, think about using the Screening assessment as a practice.
There are many tests listed in the portal. The tests that we use are: (There are also Spanish versions if needed).

Tests for Algebra and Geometry are typically for the end of the year, contact us if you were thinking of using them.

If you have started and used a different version of a test, you do not need to retest.
Retesting: Please contact our office to discuss whether a student should take a retest. A retest is not to just see if a student can get a higher score.
Powerschool for New Users

Universal Design for Learning
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework for proactively designing learning environments and experiences – from the beginning – that enable ALL students to gain knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for learning that is needed so all students can be expert, lifelong learners. A new project, UDL Forward!, supports Wisconsin educators’ use of UDL core competencies and technology resources as a means to provide effective remote and in-person learning experiences during the COVID-19 public health emergency. The project is supported through regional CESA networks and CAST, the national technical assistance center for UDL.

  1. The UDL Forward! project provides four intersecting options:
  2. UDL Blasts - engagement with UDL fundamentals and free technology tools for putting UDL into action now;
  3. UDL Learning Design Coaching Labs - apply UDL to real-world learning scenarios and access technical assistance for specific student needs, particularly those who have traditionally been underserved;
  4. UDL Community of Practice (CoP) - learn and share what's working and troubleshoot solutions to challenges within a professional learning network; and
  5. A UDL Virtual Conference - weeklong; hop in 2-3 hours LIVE daily or access content 24/7.

These learning events are free and open to all. To register, please go to the link for DPI’s webpage on Providing Training for Educators in the Provision of Online and Remote Instruction. Updates will be provided as they become available. For questions or support requests, please contact Jayne Bischoff at jayne.bischoff@dpi.wi.gov

Accreditation Annual Report
We understand how busy you are with getting ready for the school year in the midst of COVID 19 and appreciate all your efforts. Although the annual report is not due until October 1, there are parts that you can do well before that. Here are some guides to help you know what you need to do for the report. Hopefully, your Administrative Assistant would be able to assist with the demographic information and update the teacher information. Just a reminder, if you have any new hires you need to include a copy of their license. For teachers who have to have a plan or exemption because they are not teaching in a licensed area, those also need to be included. Feel free to visit the website for more information. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to our office.

Foundational Catechetical Certification (FCC)
All teachers in Diocese of Green Bay Catholic Schools are required to continue their faith formation journey through programs offered and/or approved by the Diocesan Religious Education Office. The Foundational courses are Creed, Sacraments and Liturgy, Morality, Methods B (faith integration), Prayer and Spirituality, and Bible. The recommendation is for educators to take one course each year. Once the Foundational courses are complete, teachers have the opportunity to participate in an Ongoing course, of choice, each year.
Do You Need/Want the BIBLE Course for FCC credit?
Here's Your Chance!
BIBLE is the only Foundational Catechetical Certification (FCC) course that we cannot currently make available online as we are not licensed to use the material (Jeff Cavins' Journey Through the Bible) online.

Ascension Press has a new version of the same curriculum with Jeff Cavins called, Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible, and they are making a free, online 8-week live streamed version of this available starting at 8:00PM Eastern Time on September 16th.

They will be making each session available to view for free on their website for a week before the subsequent live lesson. So participants would have a week to view the lesson at their convenience. And Ascension Press will likely have it available on their Facebook page for even longer. To get the most out of the study they are selling a study guide book that goes along with it, but this is not required in order for you to benefit from the study.

For those of you who still need FCC Bible or have already completed all of your FCC requirements and are looking for ongoing formation, this 8-week study will count. All we would require as proof that you have taken and successfully completed the 8-week study is a 1-page reflection for each week of the study (each reflection paper focusing on what were your top 3 take aways from that session) and that you fill out and return to us our ongoing formation completion form (if you are taking this to count toward your FCC/Ongoing Formation requirements please write "Toward FCC" at the very top of the form). Here is a link for that form.

If you are just interested in taking it for your own personal edification then you do not have to do anything with the form.
