ROYCEMORE VIDEO
We are proud of all the students that we have here at Roycemore and we love being with your children each and every day. Here at Roycemore, we see each student as an individual who is full of potential and is unique in their own right. We launched a new school video last week to express these sentiments and if you haven't gotten a chance to view it yet, please click on the picture and enjoy.

ONE BOOK, READ TOGETHER
The teachers in kindergarten through fourth grade have organized a Lower School Book Club to celebrate family reading. We are asking families to read The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris together at home. Then, on April 22nd, we will gather as a community to participate in a book discussion, engage in fun activities, enjoy some treats, and even participate in some magic! We are hoping that all of you will join us.
We look forward to a magical evening.
This year copies of the book will be sold at school by the Leaders of the Lower School, our Fourth Grade students, who will also assist in hosting the evening. If you would like to purchase a copy please write a check to ‘Roycemore School” or bring cash in the amount of $7.00.
We hope you all will participate, enjoy the book and the fun.

What's Happening Around Lower School

Starting in first grade, Lower School students take piano lessons. Here the 2nd graders are writing their own songs in piano.

This week the fourth graders dove into their study of Ecosystems. They began the week by learning about the relationships in ecosystems and the roles of the decomposers. Students are trying discover the role fungi play in decomposing dead materials and in creating soil. Students are conducting an experiment and investigation to discover the factors affecting decomposition. Students worked in groups and created Mold Terrariums using bread, bananas, an orange slice, a piece of cheese, and an apple. Each group chose a different environmental condition to test to see how it affects the mold growth. They will be observing the terrariums and recording their data over the next couple of weeks.

The Pre-Kindergarten kids have been so busy this week.
This week (and next) the kids will take turns taking home Rainbow! Rainbow is a llama lovey who is excited to share adventures with their pre-K kiddo and return to school the next day with a completed journal entry to share with the class!
They are also making self-portraits which help the children reflect about themselves in a concrete way - they are looking at their features, considering their size, shape and how they relate to each other. When they paint themselves self-portraits the first step is looking in the mirror. They observe their features; noticing shapes and colors. They then decide on the paint that is the best match for their skin color. After they paint the body and everything is dry they then add the details - hair, eyes, mouth, clothes, etc.

The shaving cream rain cloud science experiment was a lot of fun! This experiment teaches kids about how rain is formed. When water droplets evaporate and continue to collect in a cloud, they get heavier and heavier. They will eventually become too heavy to float on the air so the water droplets will fall to the ground as rain!
