Please note that our Return to Learn Plan is an addendum to our Student Handbook.  There are a few items that have been updated to our Return to Learn Plan:

LP-21   Communication and Quarantine
The PA Department of Health has changed their guidance that close contacts must quarantine for 14 days instead of the 10 days if asymptomatic as previously stated.

What to Expect If PA Department of Health Notifies School of Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Case
The following is a brief overview of the activities that occur when there is a confirmed positive COVID-19 case in our school, and what information you should expect to receive.
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) will notify us that they have confirmed an individual who was in one of our schools/facilities has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • The PA DOH will ask administrators for information so they may conduct "contact tracing" once a positive test is confirmed. PA DOH staff are looking for individuals who were within six feet of a confirmed positive individual for more than 15 minutes within 48 hours of the time of the test for the individual with positive results or 48 hours of the patient showing symptoms.
  • York Catholic Administrators will generate a list of individuals who may have been exposed to the positive individual according to the PA DOH guidelines.
  • York Catholic Administrators will call all of these individuals to notify them of the possible exposure and that the PA DOH will follow up directly with each individual to discuss specifics related to the case, including recommended quarantines. If you do not receive a direct call from a YCHS Administrator and the PA DOH, that means that the PA DOH did not consider your child to be at risk of exposure to the individual who tested positive.
  • Once ALL possibly exposed individuals have been notified by YCHS, the school will release a statement to faculty, staff, and school families confirming the following:
    • That an individual in the school has tested positive for COVID-19 as confirmed by the PA DOH.
    • The cohort of the individual in the school (Junior High or Senior High) who tested positive.
    • That families or individuals who may have been exposed to the positive individual have been notified by the school and PA DOH.
    • The status of school as a result of the positive test result.
    • Any other measures related to quarantines or health/safety measures that we are advised to share by the PA DOH.
Because of state and federal laws related to privacy of health care information and privacy of student and employee records, the school WILL NOT release when a household member of a student or staff, or a student or staff member specifically has been tested. Only when a positive test result is confirmed, the school will follow the protocol shared above, but WILL NOT release the name or any identifying information related to individuals with confirmed positive COVID-19 results.

If a household member of a YC student or staff member is tested as a result of being symptomatic, those students and staff members who have been within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more within 48 hours before and/or after the onset of the household member's symptoms, will be required to quarantine until the household member's test results are negative. If the household members' test results are positive, the student and/or staff that resides with that household member will quarantine for 14 days, even if they test negative and/or are symptom free.

We appreciate the continued communication with our families and community on this topic and others, and are committed to ensuring you receive timely and meaningful information related to COVID-19 so that you can take appropriate measures for the health and safety of yourself and your family.

Parent Referral Program
If you know a friend, family member or anyone looking for a high-quality, Christ-centered education for their children who do not already attend a Catholic school, you could receive a $250 credit toward your child's tuition at York Catholic.

York Catholic's Parent Referral Program is a win-win for everyone involved. Referred students receive an outstanding education from York Catholic, while parents of the referred families get peace of mind knowing their child is gaining so much more than just a top-notch education.  Families who refer someone who registers at York Catholic receive a $250 credit towards their child's tuition.

You, as parents, are our best ambassadors.  In order for the Parent Referral Program to be a success, we need information about individuals who may be interested in joining the York Catholic family. All you need to do is click here to fill out the form. If the family you refer attends York Catholic through their first semester, your family's tuition will be credited $250, spread into 4 credits applied to the months of February, March, April, and May.

The Parent Referral Program is open to all parents of current York Catholic students. Tuition credit is not available for referring your own children. $250 credit is only good toward tuition on student's account, no cash given, non-transferrable. Referred student applies only to a new student from a non-partner school.

Please click on the link above and allow us the opportunity to do what we love - help to develop, nurture and encourage children so they may grow in faith, mind, and heart. Mail or email the form to us and we will take it from there!

Thank you for all you do for our school!
School Calendar Change

We have been fortunate to be approved by College Board to administer the SAT exam at York Catholic for YC seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The date, October 14, coincides with the same date our juniors are scheduled to take the PSAT.  Because of this, we have a few school calendar adjustments for October.

Friday, October 9, will now be a full school day instead of a half day.

Monday, October 12, we will still be closed.

Wednesday, October 14, will be a full day for faculty and staff and no school for grades 7-10.  All 11th graders will have a half-day in the morning to take the PSAT (not optional), and 12th graders who pre-registered for the SAT at YC will attend for a half-day in the morning to take the SAT.
Schedule Changes
Class Schedule
Any request for a course change must be accompanied by a written parental request, teacher approval (as originally needed), and a $25.00 Late Roster Change Fee.  Since the Main Roster is built according to the original registration of students, we cannot guarantee admission to particular classes.  For incoming new students, if an error has been made in placement, teachers will initiate the needed change and no fee will be assessed.  Students requesting schedule changes must do so during the Drop Add period, which ends September 18, and no changes will be made after that date.  Level changes, however, will be considered into the first quarter at the discretion of the subject teacher for any student who has been inaccurately placed in a course.

Virtual & In-Class Learning
Our Drop Add grace period applies to the virtual and in-person option as well.  If a student opted virtual and wishes to return to in-school instruction, he or she must do so before September 18.  The same applies if a student is reporting to school but wishes to change to the virtual option.   Parents must email Kathy Hand at [email protected] to request a change.
Homecoming
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we won't be able to enjoy some of our usual Homecoming activities in person this year.  Our dance, parade, school tours, alumni social, and alumni band and cheerleader nights are canceled.  Student Council has planned alternate activities for students to enjoy.

Theme Days
Rules for Dress Down as listed in the handbook apply for this week.  Students are encouraged to dress according to the following themes on the specified days:
Monday 9/28 - Movie Monday
Tuesday 9/29 - Team Tuesday
Wednesday 9/30 - No School
Thursday 10/1 - Throwback Thursday
Friday 10/2 - Green & Gold Friday

All Fall Sports Senior Parents Night
Traditionally, we dedicate one game during the season to honor the senior athletes and their parents.  Because of schedule adjustments COVID-19 has caused, we want to be sure all of our fall senior-athletes and their parents are given a chance to enjoy this event.  In lieu of taking a chance on the individual events being canceled, this year, the Senior Parents Nights are being combined into one event.  We will be celebrating on Tuesday, September 29, at 7 PM at the stadium.  All of our fall seniors-athletes, marching band members, and cheerleaders, along with their parents are asked to arrive at the stadium no later than 6:45 PM.  Each athlete and their parents will be introduced and will walk across the field as in our traditional Senior Parent Nights.  During this event, we will also be honoring our Homecoming Court.

Please note this event is for seniors involved in fall sports, marching band, cheerleading, or Homecoming Court, and their parents only.  Mask protocol, social distancing, and capacity restrictions will be followed.  The event will be available to watch on the York Catholic Stadium YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4EXPG-mAYUN4xmUgpgaUrQ

Pep Rally
Student Council has a special Pep Rally planned for Friday, October 2, at 2:20 PM that will be viewed in classrooms. The event will be available to watch on the York Catholic Gymnasium YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYv-h3EFOOCwCJWfOSwWAyQ

Football Game
The YAIAA league is continuing with its sports season, so our Homecoming football game is scheduled to take place Friday, October 2, at 7 PM versus Bermudian Springs.  While our ticket allocation is restricted to parents of participants, fans can catch all of the action on our YouTube York Catholic Stadium livestream at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4EXPG-mAYUN4xmUgpgaUrQ Go IRISH!
Reconciliation
The York Catholic community will have the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on September 23-24 from 1-3 PM.  Several priests from the York Deanery will be available to hear confessions.  This is a great chance to begin the new school year with a "clean slate" spiritually.  Pope Francis urged, "Everyone say to himself: 'When was the last time I went to confession?'  And if it has been a long time, don't lose another day!  Go, the priest will be good.  And Jesus, (will be) there, and Jesus is better than the priests-Jesus receives you. He will receive you with so much love! Be courageous, and go to confession."
Senior Yearbook Pictures
Each year YC enters into a contract with a professional photographer, Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch, for the senior pictures appearing in our yearbook, ROSA MYSTICA.  All senior yearbook photos must be taken by Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch.  Pictures from any other photographer cannot be accepted for the yearbook.  Senior parents will be receiving mailed information from Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch with instructions regarding guidelines and the scheduled date and time of your student's senior picture in the air conditioned YC cafeteria (NEW DATE!  October 31).  Please arrive prior to your scheduled appointment so you are ready for your assigned time.  If you have not received a postcard, please call Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.

Every senior must get their picture taken, however, seniors are under no obligation to purchase the photo.  If desired, students can purchase yearbook photo packages from Lifetouch.  Lifetouch contributes a portion of package purchases back to York Catholic.

Please observe the following guidelines regarding appearance for photos.  All gentlemen must be clean shaven and wear a dress shirt, tie, and sport coat or suit jacket. Hair must be regulation length.  No piercings are allowed. Ladies will be provided with a black shoulder drape for photos. Only necklaces and earrings are allowed for the yearbook picture of the young women.  Please remove any facial jewelry.

If you have any questions, please contact Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.
YC Music Association Parent Meeting
Parents of music and choral students are welcome to attend the York Catholic Music Association meeting virtually on Monday, September 21, at 7 PM.  The meetings usually last approximately one hour and everyone's input and feedback are welcomed and appreciated. Your help in planning and implementing the efforts of the YCMA are critical.

Please email
[email protected] for the link to join the meeting.
YC Athletics Ticket Policy & Livestreams
The following is York Catholic's plan for attendance to fall sporting events. As of today, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) is strongly suggesting all schools follow the State of Pennsylvania directive of allowing no more than 250 people in attendance for outside events and no more than 25 people for inside events. Those numbers include players/participants, coaches, trainers, security, medical, athletic game management, etc. With that direction, we will follow the plan below for our on-campus sporting events.

Varsity Football Games
We will allocate tickets for each Varsity game to the head coach/moderator for Band, Cheerleading, and Football. We will be averaging 75 tickets per game for our 4 home games. Each program will be guaranteed 1 ticket per player for at least 2 games. The other games will have reduced numbers due to the opposing teams' players/coaches numbers.  Gates will open at 6:15 PM.

JV and Junior High Football Games
We will allocate 2 tickets per player, per game. The tickets will be given to the head coach to be given to each player.

Boys and Girls Soccer Games
We will allocate 2 tickets per player, per game. The tickets will be given to the head coach to be given to each player.

Girls Volleyball Games
No fans will be permitted to attend volleyball games due to the PA State guidelines of a maximum indoor number of 25 people.

Cross Country Meets and Golf Matches
Both sports are off of our property in public places. While we do not regulate our off-site venues, we ask that all of our spectators respect our host parks and courses and observe social distancing guidelines and Pennsylvania's face covering mandate. York Catholic fans are expected to follow the 2 people per player rule at these events.

Tennis Matches
Unfortunately, York Catholic was informed by Penn State York that, due to COVID-19, we could not use their courts for our home tennis matches this season. As a result, all matches will be away matches. Therefore, we need to follow the opposing teams' rules, which, as of now, do not allow for any away fans at tennis matches.

General Rules
  • All fans will be asked COVID-19 screening questions before entering.
  • All fans MUST wear face coverings during the events on school property.
  • Spectators may not be permitted to stand outside the fence area and watch the games. Any spectator doing so will be asked to leave.
  • All spectators must remain in the designated bleacher/sitting areas.
  • Spectators may not stand on the blacktop track around turf or grass areas.
  • All spectators will be asked to leave immediately after a game is completed. No congregating or meeting the players on or around the field will be permitted.
  • Use of indoor school facilities will not be available. Portable restrooms will be available at the field.
  • No concession stands will be open during the games. No outside food or beverages are permitted at games.
  • No visiting fans will be permitted.  York Catholic fans are also not permitted at away games.  This is a reciprocal agreement among all teams in the league.
  • Tickets are not transferable. Any tickets that will not be used must be returned to the student's head coach prior to the game.
  • There will be no re-entry to athletic events. Please be sure to bring everything from your vehicle that you will need during the event.
  • Stadium admission will be from the school-side gate only. The alley gate will not be used this season.
Livestreams
Home games will be livestreamed from the stadium and gymnasium. You will find the links on York Catholic's website, the York Catholic YouTube Channel, or by clicking here and saving to your Favorites:

Conclusion
This is and will be a fluid plan. If the governing bodies (PA, PIAA, YAIAA) provide different direction we will adjust as needed. The safety protocols for all involved (participants, staff, and fans) are our first priority. The next priority is to give the students as many events as we can to get the full experience of high school. We all understand having the support of parents, friends, and classmates are important to the students performing. At this time providing the students performing the experience they have earned is the goal. We ask all fans to comply to the rules and regulations we are under today so the students will not lose the opportunity of those experiences in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
