Cathedral roof replacement project nearing completion
Thanks to your support of the Grateful for God’s Providence Capital Campaign
PROVIDENCE — The nine-month, $4.5 million project to replace the entire 131-year-old slate roof of the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul is nearing completion — on time and within budget — and Msgr. Anthony Mancini couldn’t be happier.

The cathedral rector said that the company tasked with the massive job has been diligent in its attention to details, and has strived to minimize the impact of the massive renovation on those who come to Mass there each day.

“It’s first class all the way,” Msgr. Mancini said of the work performed by Consigli Construction and its contractors. “We chose the right company; they are really great. Whatever they promised us they did.”

“The beautiful interior of the cathedral is now protected from rain and snow and wind and that’s important. We had a lot of leaks.”

Soon We’ll All Be In The Past Tense
From Bishop Tobin
Perhaps because I’m getting older, or maybe because I live in a cemetery, or maybe it’s the result of the coronavirus cloud lingering overhead – but I’ve been thinking a lot about death recently.

Pope: A "pilgrim of hope" to Iraq
As Pope Francis was packing his bags to go to Iraq March 5-8, the news was filled with signals that it might not be the best time; Iraq is experiencing a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the sporadic violence afflicting the country was increasing with bomb and rocket attacks.

Emotional, psychological toll of pandemic just now beginning to be felt
WASHINGTON (CNS) — The psychological and emotional trauma of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is only now beginning to be felt, and is bound to keep affecting American workers for some time to come.

“The other virus that we’re dealing with is fear,” said Jesuit Father Thomas Florek, part of the Hispanic-Latino formation development team at the University of Detroit Mercy, during a Feb. 24 webinar sponsored by the Catholic Labor Network, “Ministering to Workers in the Time of COVID.”

Catholic sculptor hopes to inspire with his liturgical art
FALLS CHURCH, Va. (CNS) — When he was 7 years old, Dony Mac Manus’ mother gave him a bag of clay for his birthday.

The boy wasn’t thrilled to receive what he considered a bit of mud.

But he soon learned to create beautiful things with that humble bag of moldable earth. “She showed me how to make whatever I wanted,” said Mac Manus. “It opened up a whole world to me.”

Hola, El Salvador!
Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl 2021
CRS Rice Bowl visits El Salvador where we meet young people like Edwin Carlos, who are learning technical skills that will help farmers restore the health of their land. Just as people need vitamins to grow and stay healthy, the land needs healthy ingredients too. Jesus reminds us that we are called to take care of the Earth because it is God’s gift to us.

Casey Farm visited St. Luke's Preschool!
The highlight of the visit was the fact that Casey Farm brought an egg for each student, which were then placed in an incubator where they will remain for about 21 days, rotating gently at 110 degrees. With luck, each child will have a chick hatched that they will name and raise for a couple of weeks before returning the chicks to Casey Farm. It was a wonderful day of near normalcy!
