Hold my Dr. Pepper and watch this! That seems to be one ideation that somewhat defines how our WSI world has been rocking along for several months. For certain, there has been no "off-season" thus far in 2019, and by the looks of things, the only "slow" months that we will likely have this year are July and early August. We have conducted well over 225 hunts since the first of the year, the majority of those being big-game type species, with the balance being made up of spring turkey hunts. The photos contained in the WSI Play by Play only represent a fraction of what our clients have taken over the last 2 months, but this will allow you a look into our recent world. It's been a great run, but I'll admit I'm probably feeling a bit like Forrest Gump when he stopped running and turned and looked over his assembly of followers and exclaimed, "I'm pretty tired. I think I'll go home now." Don't get me wrong, we are extremely thankful for the strong business support, but indeed, I'm ready for a breather....it's been non-stop since early August of last year.
As many of you know, San Angelo has been in the news lately due to the weather we've received, most specifically with some tornado and wind damage to this area of the state. I greatly appreciate those who checked in on us. All is good here. While some folks were not so fortunate and have received some structural damage to houses and buildings, many of us were blessed to simply receive the rains. And speaking of rains, many areas of the state are simply in outstanding shape and have been for several months. The last time we saw fall/winter/spring and early summer conditions bridged like this was the late 2009 and 2010 period, with 2010 being the best over-all hunting season for this part of the world that we've seen during the last 10-15 year span. We should have a fabulous antler growing season in many areas of the state and our turkey and quail nesting success will likely be back on track this year. So, we are thankful for the continued abundant rainfall, the lush range conditions, and the generous replenishment to our local reservoirs.
We still have a few whitetail hunts available for this fall, as well as plenty availability for nilgai antelope, limited openings for aoudad sheep, and opportunities for a few other exotics. So drop us a line or give us a shout if you'd like to discuss options.
Cheers,
Greg Simons
