In like a lamb...
March has come in like a lamb here in the northwoods, with plenty of warm temperatures and sunshine so far. I'll take it, even if it means that there will be a "lion" at the end of the month.

I'm not complaining, because this February was much better than last February. Interesting fact: in February 2019, the library's solar energy system generated just 83 kWh of power with only about 6 sunny days in that month. Compare that to February 2020, when we were able to make 502 kWh of power with only about 6 cloudy days. It certainly feels nicer this year! You can take a look at the data coming out of our solar inverter online. It's fun to see what we've been generating, especially now that our system has been active for a couple of years and we have some data to compare. Since day one back in October of 2017, we've generated 14.43 MWh, the equivalent of planting 563 trees!

As always, we have plenty to keep you busy here at the library this month. Two of our events are repeats of earlier events by popular request: another session on streaming media called "Ditch the Dish!" and an art and craft supply swap at the end of the month. And don't forget our collections of books, movies, puzzles and games to keep you busy during the coming mud season.

See you at the library!

Ditch the Dish!

Back by popular demand: We'll do a repeat of our "Ditch the Dish" streaming media class on Tuesday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m.

Want to “cut the cord” or “ditch the dish” and start streaming your media? Curious about how to make one or all of those streaming media services work for you? You’ll learn about some of the many services out there: Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube TV, Hulu, Sling TV, AT&T Now, and more. We’ll look at the equipment you’ll need to watch your favorite movies, shows, and live events on your TV.

Attendees can enter a door prize drawing with a chance to win a Roku Streaming Stick+ ! Must be present to win. This class is free and open to all. Bring your questions!
When will it melt?

It's back -- our spring snow guessing game is here for another season! Time to enter your guess for when the huge snow pile on Library Street will melt. The winners will be those who guess closest to the day when we can no longer find any snow under the dirt piles. Enter your guess before April 6 for a chance to win! You must visit the library to place your guess, with only one entry per person and only 2 people on each calendar date.

This year we have prizes from several Mercer businesses. Heart of the North Bar & Grill and Ding-A-Ling Supper Club have donated gift cards, and Rooted Soul Yoga donated a gift bag full of goodies. Thank you, Steve, Betsy, and Amanda!
Art & Craft Swap

It's spring cleaning time -- Don't forget to clear out some space in your craft room or studio to make room for new things, too! The library will host another Art & Craft Swap on Friday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m.

Bring in any art or craft supplies you no longer need -- yarn, fabric, beads, paper craft supplies, paints, brushes, drawing tools, stamps, etc. -- and take home some supplies donated by others that you can use! All are welcome. Any supplies not claimed at the end of the event will be donated to a resale shop.
Book Club news

Tomorrow (Tuesday 3/3) is book club day! Our daytime group meets at 1:00 p.m. to discuss Ice Hunter by Joseph Heywood, and the evening group meets at 6:00 p.m. to discuss Fall of Marigolds by Susan Meissner.

In April, the daytime group is reading Pachinko by Min Jin Lee and the evening group is reading Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichel. Copies of both are here and ready to borrow. New members are always welcome in either group!
Movie Night

Join us for a free movie night on Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. We'll be showing "Knives Out," 131 minutes, rated PG-13 for thematic elements including brief violence, some strong language, sexual references, and drug material.

“When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.” — from IMDB.com

“Knives Out” features an all-star cast including Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Christopher Plummer, Don Johnson, and Frank Oz.
Grown-Up Story Hour

Our next Grown-up Story Hour will be on Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 p.m. at Liberty Way Tap House. This month we'll be reading stories about spring and about new beginnings.

"When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest." -- Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

If you're interested in reading a short (5-15 minutes) piece of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, email Teresa at [email protected] . We're always looking for new readers, and we promise that it's a friendly crowd! Interested in reading but don't know what to read? Just let us know -- we'll be glad to help you find something.
