THE ARIZONA CIVIL ENGINEER
Volume 97 Issue 7 - May
Hello ASCE Arizona Section Members,

I have some great news to share with you: we finally have a Civil Engineer on the Arizona Board of Technical Registration! (See for yourself here). Scott Sayles was recently appointed to the Board and we know he will represent our profession in the best way possible. This is such a huge step forward as it is imperative that we have a civil engineer on the BTR to be able to provide knowledge to civil engineering cases and provide guidance as a licensed engineer. Civil Engineers make up over 50% of licensed engineers in the State of Arizona so this just makes sense! We would like to thank Governor Doug Ducey for hearing and acting on our request. If you would like to to express your gratitude you can email him at engage@az.gov.

The IIJA was another great step forward! We cannot lose this momentum to improve our infrastructure and I wanted to bring your attention to this: Kelly, D-Ariz., and Hassan, D-N.H., have introduced legislation that would suspend the federal gas tax until 2023 in an attempt to lower gas prices. ASCE strongly opposes S. 3609, the Gas Prices Relief Act. Here is a document outlining our ASCE stance if you would like to read more about it.
Lastly, it is election time in ASCE Society level positions so I encourage you all to vote and pick your next leaders. You can do so by simply clicking the “Vote now” button on this page. Deadline to vote is June 1st, 2022!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.
