Dear Families and Staff,

We are officially one week away from the end of our school year. On June 3, we are looking forward to celebrating our eighth grade students at our outdoor graduation ceremony.  These students have made the best of many challenges, and have demonstrated grace, strength, and resilience to their peers. We wish them well on their journey through high school and trust they will continue to make a meaningful difference in the world.

Congratulations to our Retiring Staff
We are deeply grateful for the service of the District staff who retired in 2021. Each of these individuals went above and beyond in their dedication to supporting our schools and community.  We wish them happiness and health in their post-retirement endeavors.

Administrative News
The District's incoming Director of Student Services, Equity & Inclusion, Denise Matthews, will transition into the role July 1.  Please take a moment to read this introduction letter from Ms. Matthews. She looks forward to connecting with our students, staff and families. In addition to Ms. Matthews, we are welcoming Lucas Livingston to the administrative team. At the Tuesday Board Meeting, Mr. Livingston was named the new Crow Island Principal. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with both Ms. Matthews and Mr. Livingston to ensure a smooth transition into their new positions this summer.

Bridge Forward Plan to the 2021-2022 School Year
Barry Rodgers, Director of Innovation, Teaching and Learning and Beth Martin, Director of Student Services, summarized the planning that has taken place for the upcoming school year in the areas of summer services, early literacy, social and emotional learning, professional learning and curriculum prioritization. This was presented at the School Board meeting this week.  Families are encouraged to make reading a prioritized summer activity, helping students build interest and stamina as we bridge forward to fall 2021.

I would also like to thank the many parents and staff members who have served on focus groups, search committees, and in many other capacities this year. In the midst of an already busy season (and in light of the pandemic), we are grateful that you have offered your precious time on behalf of our students.

Have a lovely Memorial Day Weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Trisha Kocanda
