5 Safety Tips for College Students
Public safety officer
1. Make the call: Add the number of USI Public Safety in your cell phone (812-492-7777). If you see a crime in progress, suspicious behavior or any emergency, do not hesitate--make the call.

2. Do not walk alone: Take advantage of the University’s Campus Escort Program or walk with friends or classmates, especially at night. Contact USI Public Safety for escort services: call 812-464-1845 or use a blue emergency phone.

3. Protect your property: Never leave items unattended (backpack, laptop, cell phone), even if it is just for a minute. Make sure to lock doors and take valuables with you, especially during any holiday break.

4. Report solicitors: Solicitation on campus is prohibited! Avoid solicitor scams by politely saying "no" and immediately notifying USI Public Safety at 812-492-7777. Never provide solicitors with your personal information.

5. Always carry identification and emergency contact information: Carry an emergency notification card. Program emergency notification numbers on your phone.

Dean of Students Office (DOSO)

We want you to be successful during your time at USI and reach your education and personal goals. If you need assistance and do not know where to go, please come to the Dean of Students Office so we can connect you to any campus resources you might need.

Through our Campus Action Response and Engagement (CARE) Team, the Dean of Students Office makes sure students have the proactive assistance and support they need by assessing, evaluating and responding to reports about students who present in crisis or show concerning behavior and may need support to manage their academic and social experience at the University. Anyone can complete a CARE Team report using the "Concerned about a student" button on the Dean of Students Office website.

Our office is located on the first floor of the University Center East, room 1256. We look forward to meeting you soon!
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Students seek the assistance of the Counseling and Psychological Services office for various reasons. Whether it is adjusting to college life, depression/anxiety, body-image concerns, trauma, or something else, it is an honor and privilege to help students during their times of struggle.

CAPS, located on the first floor of the Orr Center, offers several services and delivery methods to USI Students. There are three individual scheduled therapy options (virtual and in-person), plus 24/7 support through student-peer support, emotional health support on-demand, and health coaching.
Institutional Equity Office
The Institutional Equity Office works with the USI community in implementing and upholding policies and practices that are consistent with federal and state mandates as well as existing University policies regarding equal access, equal employment and educational opportunity for all persons, without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.

The Institutional Equity Office is also the Title IX Office for the USI campus. Title IX is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities. It applies to sex-based discrimination and harassment of individuals of any gender.

Transportation
Parking Permits and Registering a Vehicle
Housing residents must register their vehicles. Students who complete the parking registration before their move in date will be able to pick up a packet at Housing check-in that will include the parking permit decal, decal placement instructions and other important information.

Commuter students are encouraged to register their vehicles but do not need a parking permit to park on campus. Commuter students may park in any University lot that does not require a parking permit or that is marked restricted. Most lots in the main part of campus are available for commuter students. Look for signs listing restrictions before parking. In housing locations, use the visitor parking spots.

USI Parking department promotes pedestrian, cyclist and motorist safety while expediting the efficient traffic flow on University roadways and in parking lots.

Screagle in the Spotlight - Marcus Robinson
Marcus Robinson picture
Hey everyone! This is my first year as an Orientation Leader. Outside of Orientation Leader, I became involved with Emerging Leaders, where I learned leadership skills along with communication. From there, I got involved with Student Ambassadors (campus tour guides) and will be a Resident Assitant this coming school year. I am also a part of the Riley Dance Marathon Executive Committee. Aside from school, I love spending time with friends and family, being active, traveling, and doing anything outdoors. I can't wait to see all of you grow here at USI in the near future, Go Screagles!
