TOMORROW , TUESDAY FEBRUARY 11, IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE ON THE SCHOOL BOND!

The 2020 school bond has received endorsements from ISPTSA Board , Bellevue PTSA Council , and the Bellevue City Council , among others.

It only takes a few hours a week, and we could really use your help!

The ISPTSA needs just 3 people to be on its Nominating Committee. Not sure how a nominating committee works? You can find the details  here . It is very likely the most influential committee and has a huge impact on future years at International.

NEW THIS YEAR— Attendees will be assigned to tables for dinner.  Seating requests are welcome and encouraged!  Organize a table with friends, OR request to sit with parents from the same grade to make new friends.

We need your help to procure or donate items to auction off at the event. Procuring items is easy, fun, and for a great cause—our students!  Donate or procure for the auction by March 14.  You can now  submit your donated item online . If you prefer a printed copy of the form, it is available to download  here .

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP FOR STUDENTS

Dear parents and caregivers,

 

Every year your student participates in lessons about digital citizenship. We use a variety of standards and curriculum to create lessons and units.

 

Common Sense Education is one resource we use to helps kids learn the habits and skills they need to use technology safely and responsibly in school, at home, and beyond.

 

WHAT IS DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP?

Kids today may seem like experts at using technology, but the digital world requires all kinds of skills and habits that kids don’t just pick up as they go. Digital citizenship helps them learn those skills. The lessons help students reflect on their tech use and make thoughtful choices about how and when they use it. Kids also learn about how to stand up to cyberbullying, use social media carefully, and look critically at the news. 

 

WHAT FAMILIES CAN DO?

Common Sense Education provides resources to help you support your student's learning. You can visit the Common Sense website at  www.commonsensemedia.org  for more information. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Working together we can prepare today’s kids to think critically and use tech in positive, creative, and powerful ways.

IS MAKER EVENT

Thursday, February 13, 5:00–6:00 PM at International

(Parents Must remain on campus!)

A special Coding Activity for IS Students will take place during the PTSA Meeting from 6:00–6:45 PM.

PLEASE RSVP TO HELP MAKE SURE WE HAVE ENOUGH MATERIALS!

BITE OF INTERNATIONAL 2020

Join the International School community at our annual Bite of IS fundraiser on Friday, February 28, from 6:00–8:00 PM in the IS Gym!

This year, all proceeds will benefit  Water First International , a non-profit organization helping people in poor countries implement water, sanitation, and hygiene-education projects.

Ticket: $10 per person  (suggested donation)

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the front office or at the door on the day of the event.

This event can't happen without strong community support.  We need volunteers to bring food, crafts, and/or entertainment reflecting a country, region, or heritage.  Sign up for a food/craft booth by filling out this form. Sign up for a performance by filling out this form. Each booth host will receive one ticket for the event.

FOCUS WEEK DONATION WINDOW NOW OPEN!

Students are not  required to pay to attend Focus Week, but we depend on parent support for the success of our activity offerings! We are working hard to reduce the cost of Focus Week by using parent drivers, public transportation, and reduced food expenditures. Focus Week expenses will be an estimated $200 per participant. Please consider donating to cover the cost of providing these enrichment opportunities. Any and all amounts are appreciated in order to make focus week successful!

Our donation drive for Focus week will run until February 28 , and families can donate at  TouchBase Lite  or in person in the main office.

The exception to Fee-Free Focus Weeks is for overnight trips. Students selecting to take part in Focus Week activities that have overnight excursions will be charged for these activities. This year, overnight trips include Sixth Grade Camp (and its 11th and 12th grade counselors), the French Exchange, the Taiwan Trip, and the Mount Rainier Trip. If students take overnight trips, they will be charged a fee for the week. Scholarships are available.

ACT/SAT TEST PREP COURSE AT SAMMAMISH HIGH SCHOOL

Classes for this Spring will start the week of March 3, 2020.

$50 for one section, $90 for two sections, $120 for three sections, $30 with a counselor-approved scholarship (more info on website ).

ROCKETRY FOR ROOKIES

Midwinter Break Camp February 17–22

Run by current Interlake High School students, Rocketry4Rookies is a fun, immersive experience for incoming 6th–8th graders . As a low-cost alternative to most other camps, we will teach you lessons in basic physics and rocketry, with a bottle-rocket launch and a REAL rocket launch on the last day of the camp, which you will build yourself based on what you have learned.
