~ Bringing together chess, community and competition ~
HER MOVE NEXT is officially launching the online Her League. This all-girls league brings the chess, competition and the community of Her Move Next to an online platform. Girls will still be assigned to teams for a quad format USCF quick online rated tournament, coaches will be available in breakout rooms, and we will still have our Her Move Next closing ceremonies. There will be prizes - individual prizes, team prizes, and special Grand Prix format prizes at the end of each season and the end of the year. Our inaugural event will be held on Monday, March 8th from 6PM-8PM, to coincide with International Women's Day.

Thereafter, we will host one league match the first (non-holiday) Friday of every month.

Thanks,

Coach Russ

HER LEAGUE | INFO

Chess Teams: Her League coaches and TDs will be assisting participants signing in to our online chess league using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Upon signing on to a monthly game night match, Her League places all participants on one of four teams before the start of Quad tournament action.

Once on a team, chess players are then ranked according to their USCF ratings. Prior to play, all participants must be current members of the US Chess Federation (Join US Chess). Player rankings determine which of the Quad tournaments that players will be entering as a representative of their team. A set of four chess players is referred to as a Quad that participants will be competing against. Quad tournaments consist of four chess players of similar abilities playing individual games of chess against each of the other three players.

All players compete in a total of three 15 minute games (5 second delay), and the player with the most points is the overall Quad winner. Players accumulate 8 points for each win or each automatic bye, 4 points for each draw, 0 points for each loss or selected bye. Should their be an overall tie, the Quad is then determined first by face-off result, and second by team result. If a sole winner can not be determined by their face-off or team result, then tied players will be named Quad co-winners.

Team results are a crucial component to Her League competitive play. Each Quad competitor contributes their total Quad Tournament individual points to their team. The team with the highest accumulated tally is named the game night match winning team. Players on the winning team receive 16 bonus points each, players on the second place team receive 8 bonus points each, players on the third place team receive 4 bonus points each, and players on the fourth place team receive 2 bonus points each.

Her League is keeping score. Starting with the 2021 Spring Season (March, April, May), Her League will be tallying each player’s individual point totals and team bonus points for an accumulated grand total per season and per annum. Match awards and recognition, season league awards and recognition, and annual awards and recognition for individual accomplishment and team achievement will be announced respectively by Her League with support from sponsors.

About Her Move Next - The Movement:

The benefits of chess enrichment is well documented but less than 20% of scholastic chess players are girls. HerMoveNext.com's mission is to make chess accessible and fun for girls through tailoring dialogue, outreach, and social events that structure and promote participation in girls' chess teams.
With the initial launch of the website, HerMoveNext.com is now screening the award winning Her Move Next short documentary, which ran exclusively first in film festivals from San Francisco, to New York, to London. Future updates of the HerMoveNext.com platform will highlight local, regional, and national girls' chess news, statistics, tournaments and more.
We encourage parents, coaches, clubs, afterschool programs, and teams to share their events, photos, stories and smiles posting to #HerMoveNext and @HerMoveNext social media, and to the HerMoveNext.com website.
