Hello PD Avengers!
March is a fickle month where I live in Canada - snowy, stormy days interspersed with sunny warm ones reminiscent of Spring. Although it’s still winter, there is a feeling that things will soon turn around, a hope that the cold winds will soon be replaced by warm breezes.
It’s also a year since the pandemic took hold here, that the schools, offices and nonessential stores closed, that the lockdown began. But just as the warmer days bring a feeling of hope, so too is there more hope for better days ahead with regards to the devastating effects of this infection. COVID-19 rages on but with the advent of the vaccine, there is hope that its spread will soon abate, and life may return to some semblance of normal. How are we beginning to turn the tide?
Although there have been very few positive outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no denying that this crisis has brought together the medical community and all stakeholders – researchers, clinicians, industry and government regulators and funders. They all worked on a global level to bring a number of vaccines to market in record time, exemplifying the power of collaboration and numbers. Imagine even part of this degree of urgency being applied to other disease states, like Parkinson’s!
That’s why a core tenet of the PD Avengers is harnessing the power of collaboration, working together to end Parkinson’s disease. This cannot happen unless we collaborate, stop duplicating efforts, share data and recognize the urgency behind this movement. And the fight to end PD requires the efforts of all of us.
We now have over 2600 PD Avengers in 59 countries across the world and we continue to grow our numbers daily. Every one of us can contribute to this cause in some way. Take a look below and check out this month’s five action alerts, ways you can join us in making a difference together!
United to end Parkinson’s!

APRIL IS PARKINSON'S AWARENESS MONTH
|
|
PD Avengers are proud to collaborate with Sport Parkinson's for RACE THE MOON a truly global effort with local impact. On Parkinson's Awareness Day weekend (April 12, 2021) there will be a new moon.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it... is to race the moon!
Race The Moon is a cumulative race against the actual Moon of Earth. The mission is a collaboration led by Sport Parkinson’s who are responsible for mission management, operations and challenge control.
|
|
Race The Moon is a fundraising event, where the focus is not on how fast, or how far you can go, but one where every ones contribution is recognised, valued and rewarded.
A personal challenge combined with the global Parkinson’s community all working together to go faster than the moon. It also will help everyone with Parkinson’s get active, help get fit and ‘keep healthy and strong ‘til a cure comes along’.
|
One unique aspect to this event is that any legally recognized Parkinson's charity can register to be one of the options individuals can chose to direct funds they raise while participating in Race the Moon. No single charity or organization is the sole benefactor of fund raising. This is yet another example of "Think Global, Act Local."

#TogetherApart
A 24-hour live stream on World Parkinson's Awareness Day. The goal is to truly put the WORLD in World Parkinson's Awareness Day giving one hour to each time zone for 24-hours to showcase PwP, treatments, and activities. We will eliminate borders; let the walls of PD organizations melt away as we come together as one community, sharing our lives with Parkinson's disease the world over.
It is going to take massive cooperation, communication, collaboration and participation to pull it off. Email World Parkinson’s Day Facilitator Dee Russell for questions and to secure participation for your group or organization.
