IAM UPDATE
January 2021
Friends:

For the past nine months, we’ve seen an unprecedented need in our community due to the health and economic hardships caused by the pandemic. We’ve seen the demand for food and financial assistance rise to levels we could never have imagined just 12 months ago.

Hard-working families throughout Henderson County faced the loss of jobs, health emergencies, the challenges of distance learning for their children, and family budgets stretched to the limit as they struggled to afford housing, utility payments, food, medical, transportation, and clothing expenses.

Throughout it all, however, our amazing donors, volunteers, and dedicated staff found a way to meet the incredible increase in demand for IAM's services. Civic and business partners, communities of faith, and our many generous funders joined with thousands of individual donors to provide money, food, clothing, and other resources necessary to help our neighbors in need.

Thank you.

As we begin the new year, please know that all of us at IAM stand ready to work hard on behalf of our neighbors in need. With your support, I am confident that we will continue to make a critical difference in thousands of lives here in Henderson County.

Wishing you and all your loved ones a happy, safe, and healthy 2021.
Stimulus Check Challenge 2.0
Our Stimulus Check Challenge in 2020 raised over $520,000 to help our neighbors in need here in Henderson County. We were grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support from our generous community.

Now that the second round of stimulus checks are being issued, we are inviting those who are able to share some of that money with local residents who continue to struggle to find the resources to feed their families, pay their mortgage/rent so they can stay in their home, and to pay household bills like utilities, auto maintenance, and medical bills.

Please consider using all or part of your stimulus check as a way to help those in need. Mail your donations to:

IAM's Food and Clothing Needs for January
Don't Have Time to Donate Food and Clothes?
As an alternative, please consider making a financial donation to IAM.

Because we purchase in bulk and often receive generous discounts from our vendors, your dollars can often go further when you make a direct contribution to IAM.

We are also aware that many of you are more hesitant to go out shopping or even to drop off food and clothing at our offices as a result of the pandemic. An online donation or mailed check allows you to safely make a huge difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.

However you choose to donate, please know that we are very grateful for the care and concern you show for our Henderson County neighbors facing unprecedented financial challenges.
Or mail your check to:

Join IAM in the Souper Bowl of Caring
Once again this year, IAM is proud to partner with tacklehunger.org in the Souper Bowl of Caring.

Souper Bowl of Caring helps transform the annual Super Bowl into a nation-wide movement inspiring people to give locally and make a collective impact on hunger. Mobilizing grassroots resources including churches, schools, civic groups, and caring individuals, the Souper Bowl of Caring movement has created over $160 million worth of support that stays completely local.

Here in Henderson County, you can organize a Souper Bowl of Caring drive in your faith congregation, neighborhood, civic organization, or club to help local neighbors who are food insecure.

An Easy Way to Participate

An easy way is to ask your organization to collect cans of soup and other canned foods and donations of $1 or more to go with your food donations. Bring them to IAM during February, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

If you need help with a large drive, please call Ernest or Wally at IAM to arrange a pick-up: 828-697-7029.

Thank you for helping IAM feed the estimated 1 in 7 people (children and adults) in Western North Carolina who struggle with hunger and the 1 in 5 children face food insecurity in our region of North Carolina.

This year, let's make sure we score a touchdown in the fight against hunger!
Drive-Thru Tuesdays Return in 2021!

Drive-Thru Tuesdays continue to be a vital life-line for many Henderson County residents.

Through January 13th, IAM's drive-thru program has served over 3,318 families comprised of 14,181 adults and children. We've distributed 1,196 packages of diapers, 1,524 packages of feminine care products, and 1,734 bags of dog and cat food.

With the recent time change, we are now operating each Tuesday from 3-5:30 p.m. Thank you for spreading the word.

Through this initiative, IAM provides families with nutritious food, toilet paper, personal hygiene supplies, pet food, face masks, and relief from the stress of food insecurity. The need continues to increase and your donations and contributions to IAM are more valuable than ever!

Thank You...
Thank you to American Legion Post NC 77 in Hendersonville for their incredibly generous donation of 2,550 pounds of holiday meal boxes which included turkeys, milk, eggs, produce and all the fixings for a holiday meal.
These are just a few of the many individuals and organizations generously supporting the mission of IAM.

THANK YOU to everyone who makes it possible for us to help our neighbors!
Captain Gilmore Christian School and Mountain Home Post Office joined forces to make this holiday season donation.
The residents of Fox Run Preserve
Biltmore Church secured 200 boxes of fresh produce from Flavor 1st in Mills River and donated them just in time for our last Drive-Thru Tuesday of 2020. Thank you!

Volunteers Needed
As you make plans for 2021, please consider volunteering at IAM! It is a wonderful way to give back to the community and help meet the ever-increasing need of our neighbors suffering due to the pandemic and subsequent economic hardships.

We are very intentional about our safety protocols and have several socially-distant shifts available in our Food and Clothing Assistance Departments. We also have opportunities for van or truck drivers to travel to local stores to pick up food donations.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to start the new year off right. Call Dianne King, Volunteer Coordinator, at 828-697-7029 to see how you can help.

And, if you already are one of our many wonderful volunteers, we look forward to working with you in 2021!
