Dear Parents,

As we draw closer to the end of the school year, you undoubtedly have questions about what the 2020 - 2021 school year will look like. Right now, I often feel as if I’m looking through a kaleidoscope and with every turn, it gets fuzzy, and then a new picture is revealed. The impact of COVID-19 on our school community is an evolving story and much like the kaleidoscope, various scenarios are possible. While I can’t predict exactly what school will look like, I can tell you we're working hard to create a plan that protects our students, staff, and community.

The following steps have been taken thus far:

  • A re-entry task force at B’nai has been created to assess and review all pertinent information regarding safety protocols by following the directives of federal, state, and local government and the guidance provided by public health experts such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as state and local health officials.

  • This team will develop a playbook for the reopening of school which will include outlines for the different possible scenarios.

  • I am also working on a plan with other Heads of School as part of a task force through the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS) to reopen school.

  • The Administrative teams are participating in ongoing professional development to research and learn all we can regarding best practices in managing the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on schools.

  • The academic leadership team is actively exploring all possible learning models for next year should we toggle back and forth from in-person learning to remote.

I encourage you to attend the Annual Parent Meeting on Tuesday at 7:30 PM to learn more about our plans for reopening the school. Next year will likely look different, even from this year, but as they say, with crisis comes opportunity. I am confident that as with all kaleidoscopes, the picture will eventually come into focus to reveal a beautiful and hopeful image of school.

Shabbat Shalom,
Susan Siegel
