As part of the observance of a holy Lent this year, Christ Church invites you to be part of a small group. Groups will be around 10 people in size and meet once a week for an hour for the five weeks of Lent on different days and times, based on your availability. This short series will focus on the Gospel of Matthew and explore what it means to follow God in our lives, grounded in Scripture readings, discussion, and prayer. ICON WRITING RETREAT
March 9–13, 2020 ~ St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church
Writing icons is an ancient contemplative, spiritual practice dating back to the Early Christian church. Join this long line of iconographers in creating an icon in the traditional Byzantine style in a week-long workshop led by experienced teacher and iconographer Teresa Harrison. Each day begins with a Eucharist service in the Episcopal tradition and includes intentional silence, listening to Gregorian chant, noon day prayer, group reflection and teachings on the history of icons and the practice of praying with icons. This time set apart is joyful, most often transformative and challenging, open to all faiths and to those with or without art experience. The cost of the workshop is $435.00, which includes instruction, all materials, and lunch each day. Hours: 8:30 am - 4:00 PM each day. Class size is limited. For more information and registration contact: Teresa Harrison, 619-206-8116, or

Christ Church Moms — A new Christian Formation class for mothers of children and youth. Join us for a book study, support, and friendship!
Led by Jen Leahey. This class meets in the Library, upstairs in the Christian Ed Bldg.
Lectionary Class —
Advent is the time of expectation and return; followed by Epiphany, a time of discovery; Lent, as a time of examination; and Easter, the capstone of the year, a time of joy and celebration. Come and experience these times in the Lectionary Class. Just as Jesus invited his disciples to “come and see,” come and discover what Jesus’ life, death and resurrection mean in our own times.
Led by Dick Hooper.
This class meets in the Parlor.
Adult Education Round Table
—
The second word in Lois Tvorberg's "5 Hebrew Words Every Christian Should Know" is "
Shema"

It is most often translated into English as our word "
listen".
However, it can be used as "
hear, understand, and comprehend".
Our discussions are intended to assist in greater understanding of the scriptures and challenge to better discipleship of Christ. For more information contact David Starling by text or phone at (850) 712-0977 or email

Led by David Starling.
This class meets in Rm. 32, upstairs in the Christian Ed Bldg.
Sunday Centering Prayer Group
—
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us. We begin by taking a few minutes to go over the basic guidelines of the practice for anyone who is new. We then sit together in the 20-minute prayer period, followed by a brief time for sharing and intercessory prayer. All are welcome — newcomers and experienced practitioners.
This class meets in the Centering Prayer room on the administrative hallway. The facilitator is Joan White.
CHILDREN'S EDUCATION ~ 9:30 AM ~ 2nd Floor of the Christian Ed Bldg

Godly Play ~ PreK3 – 2nd grade, Room 37
Children and Family Ministries is proud to utilize the Godly Play curriculum in our Sunday School classes. Godly Play is unique in that it encourages children to explore their faith through wonder and play. Each week, a bible story is told to the children using the Godly Play method, after which children utilize their “work time” to create something in response to the story. Class is concluded with a “feast” (graham crackers and water), during which the children appreciate the fellowship of their peers.
3rd – 5th Grades, Room 39
In our Extended Godly Play program, tweens will get the experience of Godly Play stories with the additional of Bible Literacy and critical thinking-based discussions with their peers.

ALTAR FLOWER MEMORIALS
Each week our worship service is enhanced with beautiful fresh flowers. After the Sunday services, the altar flower arrangements are reworked into smaller arrangements. These arrangements are delivered to members of our parish family that are unable to attend a Sunday service. The altar flowers are a memorial, a thanksgiving for an anniversary, a birthday, a new birth, or a thanksgiving for God's blessings. The donation is listed in the weekly bulletin. Forms to participate in this ministry are available on the information table in the Parish Office.

HEARING LOOP
Christ Church has a hearing loop system f
or hearing-impaired individuals who wear hearing aids with activated telecoils (or T-coils)
. Users should turn their hearing aid to the setting marked "T". This will allow your hearing aid to act like a speaker directly connected to the church’s sound system. After the service has ended, you should turn off the "T" setting. Background: A telecoil (or T-coil) is a small coil of wire inside a hearing aid that is designed to pick up a magnetic signal. When using the telecoil setting on your hearing aid it turns off the microphone so that it will only pick up the electromagnetic signal and convert it to sound. This allows you to hear only the magnetic signal from the hearing loop system. Ask your audiologist or hearing health care provider about telecoils and if it is right for you.
