Pressure Sores, Oh My!

Lions, Tigers, and Pressure Sores, oh my! Well.... Pressure sores are more than an "oh my!" kind of problem, as many of us so unfortunately know from experience. Pressure sores, also known as bed sores or pressure ulcers, are a real danger for individuals with spinal cord injuries. One cannot go for a moment without considering their position, lest a pressure sore result. The effects of pressure results can be very overwhelming; ranging from staying off of it for a few days to allow for healing up to having extensive surgery and staying off the affected area for several weeks.

But, not to fear! So many groups have designed a number of different wheelchair cushions designed safeguard those sensitive locations from developing pressure sores. Check out some of the companies listed below:

Meet One of our Newest Clients!

Barbara was injured in a skiing accident in 1992 and she's been living with a C5 spinal cord injury since then. Barbara recently retired and she is now dependent upon Medicare for assistance with her needs. She needed a new pow er chair but Medicare wouldn't pay for the elevator function - this moves the chair up and down in height and adds a cost of $2,100 to the chair. Barbara needs the elevator function to transfer herself to and from her bed at night so NAF was eager to step in and and pay for that part of her chair.

Cleaning for A Reason

We met the executive director of the non-profit
Cleaning for a Reason recently and were so encouraged by the type of help they offer women suffering with cancer.
This non-profit,  " Cleaning For A Reason", serves the United States and Canada. Our mission is to give the gift of free house cleaning for women undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Our goal is to let these brave and strong women focus on their health and treatment while we focus on, and take away the worry and work of, cleaning their homes- free of charge. We have recruited over 1,200 maid services to donate free housecleaning to women who are undergoing treatment for cancer. Since 2006, our partner maid services have volunteered their time to clean for over 17,000 women - valued at over $5,000,000."

A Wish List for Neuro Assistance Foundation

  • Cargo/Commercial Van to pick up equipment
  • Used Wheelchair Vans/Vehicles

One Donation That Changed A Life

Thanks to the generosity of many, Neuro Assistance Foundation is able to raise money and contribute to the lives of many individuals living with a spinal cord injury. Just recently the Neuro Assistance Foundation had the opportunity to help provide a modified van to Kiley; a six year old girl born with Spina Bifida. This van provides the opportunity for Kiley to go out with her mom and easily be transported about. Previously Kiley was unable to go out into the community without both her mother and her father due to the difficulty in transporting her in a non-handicap accessible vehicle.
At the time of the presentation of  the van to Kiley and her parents, we also gave Kiley
an Elsa doll. When we asked if she knew who Elsa was, her dad laughingly responded that she owned the movie! Look at Kiley all dressed up as Elsa and holding her new doll.

Support Our Year Round Sponsors
NAF has some of the most amazing sponsors in the world. Because of their generosity, we are able to help so many people with life changing injuries. Please remember them when you're shopping or choosing services.

We Need Your Help

Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer

Change lives; make a difference.

Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.

Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.

Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.

Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.
