"Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And all that is within me, bless His
holy name.” Psalm 103: 1
In such times as these, it is not unusual for everyone to take time out of their normal business, step out of the ”rat race” and do some real deep down soul searching.
It seems the whole world has come to a halt concerning their daily routine. To a large degree life has certainly changed, due to the serious ramifications of the COVID-19 virus.
If there is any “silver lining” in this pandemic virus, it is that the whole world is being forced to come to terms with what is really important in life; our faith, our family, and our friends and our souls’ salvation. Jesus asked “For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul.” (Matt. 16: 26) Money can't buy you real love and it certainly can't save your soul!
Gaining the whole world profits a man’s soul absolutely nothing! It is not in the world’s power to give what is only God’s to give and that is our soul’s salvation. Many of us have truly lost sight of the fact that the preservation of our souls and the souls of others is the most valuable and precious commodity that we all possess and should be most concerned about.
Chasing after fame and fortune is chasing after “fools gold.” The real purpose in life as I understand it to be, according to God, is to be faithful to God, loving to your family, helpful to friends and neighbors and the salvation of one’s soul.
Our souls are the animating force that gives us the power to be alive. It is God’s breath that gives us our soul. ”And the Lord God formed man (body) of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Gen. 2: 7 - KJV) Adam only became a living being with a soul once God’s divine breath entered his nostrils.
There are three parts that make up a man and not one should ever be taken for granted. “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess. 5: 23)
To put it simply, the soul is the breath of life, the spark that God gives at birth and takes away at death. ”Behold, ALL souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who SINS will DIE. ” (Ezekiel 18: 4) When your body dies your soul will leave the body of flesh.
Over the last few bulletins, I have been writing a lot about the importance of knowing the truth (God’s word - the Bible), speaking the truth and living by the truth at all cost. This is indeed how a Christian should walk in life! The connection between the truth and the salvation of one’s soul is essential for all men to heed and take note. James tells us, in James 1: 21; “Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and ALL that remains of wickedness, in humility RECIEVE the word implanted, which is able to SAVE your SOULS.”
That is what everyone should be searching for and pursuing in life – the truth and being in strong pursuit of their soul’s salvation. “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matt. 10: 28)
