Local stories edition

I hope you all are staying healthy and safe. Our libraries have now been closed for a month, and I am proud to see how our both our library and community services team have responded to COVID-19. Everyone continues to adapt and collaborate during these unprecedented times with a strong sense of community.

This year ANZAC Day will be commemorated through a live streaming service. Our library team has also dedicated this enewsletter to highlight local stories. To coincide with this, I'm also pleased to unveil our Local studies online archives with over 10,000 local photographs and other images now uploaded to the library catalogue. Scroll down to learn more.

Special project with local schools in 2014

Charles Edwin Bailey - More than Just a Name WW1 multimedia project
Charles Edwin Bailey - More than Just a Name WW1 multimedia project

The City of Canada Bay invites you to join us in commemorating the legacy of men and women from the local area who served during World War I. More than Just a Name was a multimedia video project to engage young people in documenting the personal journey of our servicemen and women. These videos were created using our portable multimedia labs at Five Dock Public School and Concord Public School in 2014.

You can also find a selection of articles on the City of Canada Bay's wartime history on the Canada Bay Connections blog. From the battles of WW1, manufacturing in WW2, the Battle of Kokoda, fundraising and recruiting.

This ANZAC Day, community members are invited to honour the memory of Australian men and women who have served in and died in war.

3D print club

Most 3D scanners are small, expensive and hard to move, so that's where photogrammetry comes in. Photogrammetry is a technique that uses photographs of an object to create a 3D model. 3DF Zephyr will turn up to 50 photos into a 3D model.

There are plenty of tutorials to get you started so we'd like to challenge you to create a 3D model related to local history and share a preview of it on social media using the hashtags #3dprintclub #localhistory and  tag us @canbaylibraries
Keep your eye on our new community portal for 3D modelling and printing projects brought to you by The Learning Space team! This week we'll show you how to 3D model your own two-up paddle (or 'kip') from scratch. A fantastic beginners project, and no 3D printer required. A great way to get creative while at home this ANZAC Day!

Keep your eye on the new Canada Bay Connects - Community Space for more 3D printing projects brought to you by The Learning Space team!
