Introducing the FaithWorks 100 + 1% Challenge
At the February meeting of Diocesan Council, Bishop Andrew issued a Challenge to parishes across the Diocese in support of FaithWorks' 25th anniversary campaign. The Council endorsed the Challenge unanimously. Here is the Challenge:
· 100% – every parish in the Diocese is encouraged to enthusiastically promote and participate in this year’s FaithWorks campaign.
· 1% - each parish in the Diocese is asked to set a FaithWorks fundraising goal that exceeds their 2020 result by at least 1% of their overall 2020 offertory amount.
The Opportunity
This year’s campaign marks the 25th anniversary for FaithWorks; a milestone. Building on the success of last year’s effort, let us reach for something extraordinary: 100 + 1%. That is 100% participation and a 1% increase in giving from all parishes. Combined with another $100,000 matching challenge, we have the opportunity to aim for our best result ever.
The challenge is equitable, fair, and consistent with biblical teaching to give proportionately of one’s own gifts. For parishes that do not have a history of participating in FaithWorks, they are encouraged to set a goal of a minimum of 1% of their 2020 offertory amount. The same arithmetic will apply to parishes that already give 3%, 5% or 10%.
The Stewardship office will send explanatory letters in early April, outlining this year’s challenge including the arithmetic on how their parish target was identified. We will use figures from the 2020 Churchwardens Return in our calculations.
FaithWorks is the annual outreach appeal of the Diocese of Toronto. It is our annual shared mission to feed, shelter, nurture and befriend people in need. Together, we help improve the lives of over 20,000 people every year who face difficult challenges.
