Cyber Awareness - COVID 19

During this time of the growing concern related to COVID-19, there is also an increase in activity of individuals who will use this opportunity to spread malware, launch phishing and/or spear-phishing campaigns.

Even the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is not immune, as they recently suffered a cyber-attack on its own computer system. The cyber attack was deemed a "campaign of disruption and disinformation" which was aimed at undermining the response to the coronavirus. Luckily, no data was compromised.

We have an informative article that we'd like to share with you; one that can help you maintain diligent cyber security awareness and not to fall prey to the hackers and attackers looking to take advantage of the fears surrounding the growing pandemic.

Employee Dishonesty Coverage
Got Volunteers?

Nonprofit organizations often don't have an abundance of financial resources devoted to fraud or crime prevention measures, which can leave them vulnerable to incidences of employee dishonesty.

While most nonprofits do make good hiring decisions and have a staff made up of honest and hardworking employees, there are some bad actors that can drastically harm an organization.

Nonprofit entities were the victims of 9 percent of all fraud, with a median loss of $75,000. For many organizations with limited financial resources, a loss of this magnitude can be devastating.

Beyond the immediate financial toll, an even greater potential cost of fraud is the damage that can occur to an nonprofits reputation. Because most nonprofits depend on support from donors, grantors, or other public sources, their reputations are among their most valued assets. In addition, fraud in a nonprofit setting can often result in negative media attention.

Employee dishonesty claims are not just limited to your employees.  If your organization works with volunteers, there is also the risk of a volunteer misusing the organization's property or assets for personal use. To make sure you are protected from this risk exposure, organizations should verify that their volunteers are in fact included on their policy and if not, seek to extend employee dishonesty policies to cover their volunteers.

The Power of Positive Thinking

Staying positive is a core ingredient in the recipe for coping with a crisis.

It's the little things that can help us all get through.

1. Savor the small things: the smell of coffee or a warm shower.

2. Strengthen relationships with friends & family.

3. Look for the good in others.

4. Take time to relax.

5 Essential Tips for Working Remote

With the stay in place order and social distancing as our "new normal", many people are finding themselves working remote. If this is a new venture for you, it can be challenging at first. Here are some helpful tips in navigating the world they call 'working from home'.

1. Keep your normal morning routine as if you were commuting to work (shower, eat breakfast, workout, get dressed, make your bed).

2.  Give yourself some slack.  If you have never worked from home before, it can be a big transition. You might feel isolated, lonely or even stressed at first.  Any transition takes time to get used to, so try to be easy on yourself.

3. Take scheduled breaks.  Take a walk, even it it's just around the house. Walk away from your email to eat a 30 minute lunch. Call a friend.

4. Separate your work space.  Don't work in spaces that are associated with leisure time (i.e. the couch or bedroom).  Instead, dedicate a specific room or surface in your home to work.

5. Communication.  Co-workers are no longer just a few desks over. So, finding ways to communicate effectively is paramount. Microsoft Teams and Zoom are a great place to start!
Electronic Payments Available!

The COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic has accelerated certain trends in business, most notably the transition to a "virtual workplace" as businesses across the country-including many of you-work from home to slow the spread of the virus.

Along with this transition is the move towards electronic payments. We strongly encourage you to use the Epay option available on our website for convenience and security. This is a one-time ACH or credit card payment option that you initiate when ready to pay.

In addition, this payment method reduces the need for physical contact with checks, and reduces our reliance on the USPS. Be assured, we still will process paper checks if that is your preferred payment method, however, there might be some delays. Please let your account manager know if you are mailing a check.

For your convenience, the Hawley & Associates website has a "Pay Here" button in the upper right corner for EFT payments.  Here is the link to our
