NEW NEWSLETTER EDITOR
Brian Sullam, a former Sun reporter and editorial writer (1979-2001) who then worked in various communications roles at T. Rowe Price until he retired at the end of 2017, has agreed to become the monthly newsletter editor. Sylvia Wehr, who has been editing it for the past year, will continue to head the Communications Committee. She deserves a gigantic thanks for keeping all of us well informed month after month.
CURRENT STATUS
Even though the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the Club’s on-site speaker luncheons and dinners, members nevertheless have enjoyed many informative Zoom presentations. Zoom lunches and dinners will continue until Maryland and Baltimore on-site dining policies change. The board and staff are closely monitoring developments.
-
Meals: Thanks to Chef Charlotte Galley, delicious meals are generally available for pickup at the Club and delivery from Tuesday through Friday. If you would like a meal, reply to the menu email the day you would like it. (If you need delivery, let us know. We try to accommodate you when we can.) Lunches can be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Check your Club emails to see the next day’s menu. In these difficult times, ordering meals helps sustain the Club’s financial health.
-
Zoom Lunches and Dinners: The Speakers Committee, chaired by Jack Gohn and supported by Zoom expert Sam Hopkins, has done a fabulous job of providing members with programs and get togethers this summer that will continue this fall. Programs with guest speakers have generally been scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, members can gather virtually on Zoom for lunch-time conversation. If you are tiring of your same “groundhog-day” routine, think about spending some time (virtually, of course) with fellow club members. Lively discussion is a one way to break up the day.
-
Zoom Enhancements Coming Soon: To enhance the members’ remote participation experience, the Board has authorized the purchase of an “Owl” camera and two monitors that will connect to the Zoom network. The Owl video camera automatically focuses on the person speaking at a clubhouse gathering. The image and voice are captured and transmitted to members viewing remotely with Zoom. The experience will be a more natural, informal conversation for members in the clubhouse as well as those at home. The Owl camera will be functioning in October. We are also upgrading the clubhouse’s Wifi system.
USAGE COMMITTEE
The Club’s newly formed Usage Committee is now up and running. Its charge is to develop new activities and events to make the Club more valuable for members and how to we can profitably utilize our clubhouse and staff by servicing non-members. Jack Rosholt chairs the committee. He and the committee members (listed in the left-hand column) welcome any suggestions you might have.
POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS
Every member should feel free to suggest potential new members and invite him or her to one of our Zoom lunches or programs.
