Principal’s Corner
I want to sincerely thank every parent, student, teacher, and staff member for making the first three weeks go as smoothly as they have. We appreciate the teamwork with following all of our protocols—especially in the car line, as well as the adherence to our health and safety protocols and the abundance of caution in keeping children home who are not feeling well.

My joys this week include watching our youngest students grow day by day in their independence entering the school building each morning. Another joy is being able to safely welcome 80 new students to Immanuel this year. God is so good, and we are blessed to serve in His ministry.
School Office Updates
  • Spirit Days are back! Our first Spirit Day is Tue., Sep. 8. Spirit Day is the first Monday of each month [after September]. Students and staff are invited to wear their Immanuel spirit wear or blue and white. The class with the most participants will receive a special treat!
  • If your student misses school, homework will be put in the rack outside the school office at the end of the day.
  • Please note: after school Extended Care pickup is through the school doors, Door #1.
  • We Love our Furry Friends, But…our school policy requires dogs and other pets to remain in the car with their owners. We do not allow pets on campus for everyone’s comfort and safety.

Additional COVID FAQs
Complete COVID-19 FAQs are available at ilsbatavia.org/covid_faq

Does an asymptomatic sibling need to be tested in order to return to school if they are quarantining due to a brother or sister testing positive for COVID-19? [Added Sep. 4, 2020]
  • Immanuel will follow the recommendation of the child’s physician. The school office will need a written release from the doctor to return to school.

Will parents get updates after being notified that someone tested positive for COVID-19? [Added Sep. 4, 2020]
  • Immanuel must maintain the confidentiality rights of our staff and students. Every time a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, parents will be notified by the school office as soon as possible. If a student was a close contact, parents will be contacted by the Kane County Health Department. If parents do not receive any further notifications, they can assume that it is safe for their child to attend school.
Eye Exams and Immunizations
Medical providers are urging parents to make appointments to resume necessary immunizations. At this time, all child-health related requirements for school attendance remain in effect for children in public, private, or parochial schools, as per 105 ILCS 5/27-8.1.

Health-related examinations and immunization requirements are due no later than October 15. Required physicals must be completed on the Certificate of Child Health Exam Form, which can be found here: dph.illinois.gov/sites/default/files/forms/certificate-ofchild-health-examination-03032017.pdf. The form should be completed in its entirety with required signatures and turned into the school office by the Oct. 15 deadline. As a point of clarification, this form is acceptable to meet the requirements for a sports physical, but an IESA/IHSA sports physical form may not be used to fulfill the child health examination
Introducing…
We are pleased to announce some new additions to Immanuel’s faculty and staff. We are thrilled to share the good news that we have a new orchestra director, Cara Schlecker Ketter, who is able to offer individual private lessons to students in Grades 2-8. More information about lessons and Mrs. Ketter’s background can be found here.

We also have hired two new after school care workers, Rachel Polignone and Aliya Bierlein. Miss Polignone is studying early childhood education and has experience supervising children with the Geneva Park District and as a nanny. Miss Bierlein is studying to be a DCE [Director of Christian Education] and also has experience supervising children through the Geneva Park District, as well as at Walcamp.

We are blessed to have each of these three new additions to our Immanuel family. Please join us in helping them to feel warmly welcomed!
Band for Today
This fall Band for Today is keeping it virtual. In order to keep our students, schools, and teachers safe they have exciting, interactive, remote group lessons planned with classes available in the afternoon and evening. More information is available here. See more about their virtual program at bandfortoday.com/fall-virtual-learning/.
We Have an for App for That!
At this point, every parent should have received an email invitation to enroll and install the GatherSmart self-certification app. This app allows us to streamline our morning drop-off procedures. Many families have already begun using the GatherSmart app successfully. There have been a couple of questions that we’d like to clarify.
  • Emails were sent to parents’ email addresses that are on file in the school office. An introductory email came from the school office email, and a set-up email was sent directly from GatherSmart. If you have not received the email, check your spam folder first. If you have determined that you have not received the email invite, please contact Bill McLane at wpmclane@gmail.com.
  • If one parent has downloaded the app on his or her phone, there is no need to install it on another family member’s phone. We will have a report each day to verify who has completed self-certification on the app. However, if parents would like the app on multiple phones (i.e., spouse, carpool driver, grandparent, or nanny) please contact Bill McLane at wpmclane@gmail.com.
  • Please have the green passport screen on your phone when you pull up in the car line so that our staff can verify that your family has self-certified for the day. Temperatures will still be taken in the car line.
  • For those who do not use the app, we will continue to ask the self-certification questions at the car.
  • If you have any questions about the app, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
