Your weekly news & updates
Dear Residents -

This week we finally heard the news we all have been waiting for. The CDC announced that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state or local regulations. Unfortunately, Governor Cuomo has said that the New York mask mandate will remain in effect until state health officials review the CDC guidance. Personally, I hope they are working overtime this weekend, because it cannot happen soon enough for me.

With the warmer weather, the re-opening of schools and after school activities, I feel like life is returning to normal. Finally, we have baseball, softball, soccer, Gaelic football, bicycling, hiking, gardening, planting and, most importantly, in-person 5K races - which leads me into the Town of Orangetown Hunger’s 5K Heroes.

This race will raise funds to support local food pantries. It will start at Depot Square in Sparkill, with an out and back course on the Joseph B. Clarke Rail Trail. Please consider joining my Team, as I have been challenged by Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick to get the most team members. You can run or walk (but no bikes) and after the race you can enjoy all that downtown Sparkill has to offer - tacos, coffee, wine, homemade profiterole or Spanish cuisine - all in the name of helping your neighbors and supporting local businesses.

With May and June also comes final exams which, for some families, may cause stress. Dr. Dominque Padurano, a certified yoga instructor and former high school teacher, is offering teachers, students and their parents a variety of techniques to relax at home and to combat test anxiety at school. You can register for his class with the Orangeburg Library by clicking here.

And a heartfelt thanks to all who serve as we acknowledge Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 15th.

Respectfully,
Teresa M. Kenny

National Police Week is a week to recognize and honor the service and sacrifice of our brother and sister law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty while protecting communities and safeguarding our democracy. In 2020 alone, 362 law enforcement officers gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty representing a 141% increase from 2019.

Pet of the Week - Kenny!
Attached is an image of "Kenny" who we, Hudson Valley Humane Society, decided to name in honor of Supervisor Kenny. He was found as a stray in O'Town and was brought to the Hudson Valley Humane Society, and not reclaimed. Kenny has since been neutered, received his vaccines, has been microchipped, de-wormed and received a bubble bath and nail trim. He is a nice, medium-sized mixed breed dog perhaps 18 months of age. Interested parties should email: HVHSSTAFF@gmail.com or text 917-703-0072
