Update from Superintendent Wagner
Dear Fairview Families and Friends,

One of the first people I met when starting working with the Fairview Park City Schools was Terry Shippacase, an educational assistant at MMS-FHS.  She shared with me that there was this student club called, Family-Friends-Fairview, that focused on doing nice things for each other. I picked up on this idea, and as you may recall, we held several “Meet, Greet, and Eat” gatherings at local restaurants to get to know each other and share information about the district.  Some were attended by just a few people. At others, we had a crowd. Here’s a picture of our February 2015 gathering at Dominic’s Santos. Great food, great people, great fun.
Those times will come again.  Don’t you worry!

But, we knew this time would come...  The time when the Governor officially ordered us to “stay at home” except for essential purposes.  At the district, the good news is that we will be able to continue providing breakfasts and lunches for our students who qualify, and that our construction work on the middle and high school can continue (we’re SO close to being finished!)  Hunker down, everyone. Stay safe and stay at home as much as you possibly can. You may have seen me and my wife, Susan, walking around town, getting some exercise and enjoying being outdoors. Wave or honk if you happen to see us.(Perhaps a game of “Where’s Wagner” is forthcoming!  No, I won’t have a suit on! )

You may be struggling with information overload as much as I am.  Wow! However, if you ever need MORE information on any topic, whether included in these district updates or not, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. (You might just find it highlighted in the next day’s update!)

Be well, everyone.

Bill Wagner, Superintendent
Fairview Park City Schools

Grab-and-Go School Meals
The Fairview Park City School District is providing meals during the extended school closure for families who rely on free or reduced-cost meals for their children. We will offer no-cost, grab-and-go meals (each student will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches).

**We will now be distributing meals for the week on MONDAYS ONLY from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.**

Please fill out this form so our food service department can accurately estimate how many meals to prepare. If you previously filled out a form for meals, please fill out this new version for the new Monday pickup schedule.

Please contact Diana Hill, Food Service Director, at dhill@fairview.k12.oh.us or call (440) 365-3525 x4120 if:

  • You are unable to pick-up meals and would like to request delivery
  • You need to confirm if you qualify for free or reduced-cost meal benefits
  • You need help applying for meal benefits
  • You have any other questions related to food resources.

A special note for students and parents who use the Summit Platform
from Melanie Wightman, Director of Teaching and Learning

As of today, both FHS and LMMS have turned off the auto-notifications parents receive via SMS. Most due dates have already been changed and, along with content, will be continuously adjusted as we proceed.  Changes and adjustments make the auto-notifications irrelevant and confusing. Please look for direct communications from the teachers through whatever channels they have established:  emails, Google Classroom, phone calls.

If we have erred on the side of over communicating or assigning what feels like too much work, please forgive us. We have tried to set students up to have plenty with which they can keep busy.  To the best possible extent, we want them personally connected and encouraged as well as moving forward academically.

Due dates are, for the most part, absolutely flexible--especially with younger students. More mature students, for instance those studying at the Advanced Prep (AP) level, may be expected to keep up a more stringent pace.

We understand that everyone’s circumstances differ and do not intend for anyone to feel overwhelmed. We will keep working to establish and keep up a pace that works for everyone and absolutely appreciate your feedback in the process.

We are so proud of and grateful to our staff members.  They, too, are juggling family responsibilities. Some have spouses who are healthcare providers or first responders working extended hours.  As Dr. Amy Acton, Ohio Department of Health Director, recently reminded us: “Not all heroes wear capes.”

We are very fortunate in the Fairview Schools to have a group of parents who have been sharing information and tools with other parents about how to help our children be future-ready.  This group, called the “ Advocates for Progress and Preparedness ” formed almost a year ago to encourage and support other parents throughout the district..  They have partnered with a larger group called, Prepared Parents , who have created resources and daily tips that are aligned to the book Prepared: What Kids Need for a Fulfilled Life , by Diane Tavenner.  Take a look!
Home-Based Spirit Week
Our students and staff had a blast learning and working from home in their pajamas and alongside their favorite stuffed animals today! We are looking forward to a new cast of characters for Tuesday's Character Day -- dress up like your favorite character from a book, TV show, or movie!
