Report Finds 13% Decrease In Hospital Acquired Conditions
|
|
Data from the CMS and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality showed that the number of hospital-acquired conditions declined by 13%, or an estimated 910,000 cases, from 2014 to 2017. These reductions helped save $7.7 billion and prevent 20,500 hospital deaths.

Cardiology Experts Revise Guidelines On Warfarin For A-Fib
|
|
The American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society issued updated guidelines on the management of patients with atrial fibrillation, which includes a recommendation to use novel oral anticoagulants instead of the blood thinner Coumadin, or warfarin, in most patients with AFib. The guidelines, which also encourage weight loss for AFib patients, were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation and the journal HeartRhythm.

Aetna, Apple Developing App That Rewards Healthy Behaviors

CVS Health's Aetna and Apple are creating an app for the iPhone and Apple Watch that provides rewards to members who engage in healthy behaviors such as meeting exercise goals, getting immunizations and obtaining refills. The app, called Attain, uses personal health data to provide customized health goals and recommendations to users, and it will be available this spring.
