“Vaccination Buddies” Help Seniors Navigate COVID Vaccine Appointments

A new program called "Vaccination Buddies" is underway in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff to help senior citizens schedule appointments to get their vaccinations.

A small group of local residents, along with Dickinson Hall (Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Senior Center) have teamed up to assist residents 65 and older.

LF/LB Vaccination Buddies will offer virtual support to individuals who are unable to complete the Covid Vaccine sign up process independently. These volunteers understand that many of our local seniors are challenged by the process of making a vaccination appointment due to lack of online/Wi-Fi or telephone capabilities. Referred clients must be willing to provide all essential information (name, address, phone number, email, birthday and qualifying information) necessary for completion of the appointment. Volunteers will assist with online and/or telephone appointment registration.

Seniors Who Need Help may access help by using
Facebook or this form.

LF/LB Vaccine Buddies are looking for volunteers who can “buddy up” with a senior who needs help navigating the websites and emails and scheduling a vaccination appointment.

If you're interested in volunteering, please register via Facebook, email LF/LB Vaccine Buddies at lflbvaccinebuddies@gmail.com or fill out this form.

Please call Dickinson Hall (Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Senior Center) at 847.234.2209 for more information.

Deerpath/ Rte. 41 Viaduct/Pump Station Project

On Deerpath Golf Course: The 2 ponds are being excavated, weather permitting.

At the southeast corner:  Sheet piling installation will continue and should be completed in the next week, weather permitting.

At the northwest corner:  A boring pit has been excavated at the southbound Rte. 41 exit at Deerpath. This is where the contractor will be directional boring a pipe under Rte. 41, the bike path, and the Union Pacific freight train line. The exit ramp will be temporarily closed when the drainage pipe for the west pond at the Deerpath Golf Course is installed.

Contractors are working from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Snow Removal Updates

This season, the Public Works Department reports that Lake Forest has experienced 19 snow events and has seen a total of 61.5 inches of accumulation.

In the next week, the City’s Public Works and Parks & Forestry Sections are working hard to improve overall visibility and use of City’s streets and sidewalks.

Through Saturday, crews will:

• Push snow back at the street intersections
• Widen / open up cul-de-sacs
• Plow the 104+ miles of City sidewalks
• Bench plow the streets to expose the 7,500+ streets drains for when melting begins

Sunday-Monday: More snow is predicted, so crews will shift back to street and sidewalk plowing.

Tuesday-Friday: Based on the current weather forecast with no snow called for after Sunday, crews will haul snow from the uptown business district.

Although Fire and Public Works personnel are working to expose fire hydrants, City crews would greatly appreciate any help from residents by digging out any fire hydrant in or near their yard. Thank you!

Vaccine Updates

Currently, there is a lot of buzz about vaccinations being made available at multiple locations in our area, but it is still important to register with Allvax.

The AllVax Portal is provided by the Lake County Health Department. Other locations like Jewel-Osco, CVS and Walgreens are also offering vaccinations. The Lake County Health Department urges all Lake Country residents to register with AllVax and to pursue opportunities for vaccination at retail pharmacies, hospitals, or doctors' offices.

Please note that the AllVax system will update your profile if you receive a vaccine from another provider.

The AllVax system does not email everyone who is eligible at the same time. It will notify you when all three of these things occur:

  1. You are eligible in the current phase of vaccinations;
  2. The Health Department has received a shipment of vaccine; AND
  3. Vaccination appointments are currently available.

Where can I find vaccination sites to check for appointments?
The State of Illinois has created an interactive map of locations offering vaccine appointments. The State of Illinois Vaccine Locator website provides a directory of locations offering COVID-19 vaccines, including dozens of pharmacies in Lake County. At this time, all sites are providing vaccinations by appointment only. Residents are encouraged to check with their own healthcare provider and register with additional vaccine providers who may have appointments available. Please be advised that all vaccine providers have very limited appointment availability due to limited vaccine supply. While vaccine supply remains low, please check back at participating sites near you. Appointments may open (and fill) quickly.

Is the City providing vaccinations?
No, vaccines are being distributed through local health departments and vaccination partners, such as pharmacies and hospital systems. The Lake County Health Department is the primary vaccinator for our area, supported by area hospitals, pharmacies, and medical groups. As vaccine inventories increase, vaccines will be more widely available at convenient locations such as retail pharmacies, doctors' offices, and state-run clinics.

Support Solar and See $avings

Not every home or business is ideal for solar panel installation. Tree cover, roof structure, multi-tenant building, condominium or rental living may make rooftop solar an impracticable option. Community solar is a way for residential and small business ComEd customers to support clean energy by subscribing to a “share” of a solar farm located somewhere in the ComEd service territory.

No roof? No problem. The best part?

ComEd will offer an on-bill credit for each “share” of subscription saving you 20 percent on your monthly electricity supply charges. To support equitable access to this program, there are no credit checks, enrollment fees, or termination fees.
