Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Core Skills II 

EFT Core Skills Training presents a set of four, two-day workshops that offer an in-depth opportunity to develop the core skills essential to the practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). The 2021 EFT Core Skills Training will be held online.

Prerequisite: This course is intended for participants who have completed an EFT Extenership.

Course Description:

EFT Core Skills Training is a set of four, two-day workshops that offer an in-depth opportunity to develop the core skills essential to the practice of EFT. Each two-day segment includes instruction, role-play, observation of a live or videotaped interview, and consultation. To complete the course participants present a short, videotaped segment of their own clinical work.

Participants must commit to attending all four workshops, and may apply this training toward EFT certification. The completion of an EFT externship is a prerequisite for this program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Interview for the negative cycle of interaction
  • Deepen emotion with partners/spouses who share significantly different views of their relationship
  • Help clients experience success and connection in their vulnerability

Session 1:   Steps 1–2, Assessment with jim Furrow

Session 2:   Steps 3–4, Cycle De-escalation with Jim Furrow

Session 3:  Steps 5–7, Withdrawer Re-engagement with George Faller

Session 4:  Steps 5–7,  Pursuer Softening with George Faller

Prerequisite: The completion of an EFT Externship - In order to receive ICEEFT Certification, you must also register for Core Skills I.

 James Furrow, Ph.D, LMFTA

James Furrow, Ph.D., is a recognized leader in the development and practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples and families. Together with EFT originator, Dr. Susan Johnson, Jim co-authored Becoming an EFT Therapist: The Workbook and The EFT Casebook, and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy:  Restoring Connection and Promoting Resilience. His presentations are well regarded nationally and internationally for their substantive, practical, and inspiring focus. Jim maintains an active research program studying the process of EFT and its outcome with couples and families. His research appears in Applied Developmental Science, Developmental Psychology, Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy, Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, Journal of Systemic Therapies, and Psychology and Spirituality. Formerly Jim served as the Freed Professor of Marital and Family Therapy at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology where he trained psychologists and marital and family therapists in couple therapy for over two decades. He is a clinical fellow and an approved supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a member of the National Council on Family Relations, and a Certified Family Life Education. He is a certified EFT therapist, supervisor, and trainer.  

This training is designed for mental health professionals and is hosted online. This continuing education workshop provides 13 Clinical hours. The cost of 1 ticket is $255. Tulane School of Social Work adjuncts, TSSW students, TSSW faculty, and TSSW staff may contact us for discount codes. Only Master Card and Visa Accepted.

The registration fee is $255. Please fill out the online form to register. Payments can be made via credit card.

Please fill out the registration form.  Our final registration is predicated on receiving your payment. Once your payment is received, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration into the program, and you will be guaranteed a spot at the workshop.

CANCELLATION POLICY -- In the event you cannot come to our program, it is important for you to notify us 24 hours before the program begins, by emai at jstpierre@tulane.edu.  We will refund the registration fee if notified 24 hours prior to the workshop. 

 
 
 
Online Policies:



 
1. Please do not share the Zoom Meeting link with anyone who is not registered. We must honor Tulane University policies concerning capacity and create a waiting list for these events. If an individual has not registered in Constant Contact but attends the Zoom Meeting, this person will not receive credit for their attendance.

2. If you cannot attend the meeting, please let us know to cancel your registration. We have a long and growing waiting list for these sessions, and we would like to be able to offer those individuals the opportunity to attend.

3. TSSW is available to offer minimal technology assistance, such as unmuting or muting your microphone.

6. Register for Zoom at least 20 minutes in advance to account for any technology issues prior to the meeting.

7. Mute microphone upon entry.

8. Maintain a professional view of your camera to include attire and background. You should have limited distractions visible in the background.

9. Attendance is extremely important to the amount of credit hours you will receive. Time will be deducted from the total credit hour(s) when you are not in attendance.

10. The quiz/evaluation will be emailed to you. Certificates will be issued some time after you have completed the survey.

11. If you choose to call in, use the Zoom "Connect to Audio" option with your Participant ID.
