Committed to learning at home
For five weeks now, the students and teachers of Transfiguration Academy have been learning and teaching remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. From Google Classrooms to Zoom meetings, the entire school community is stepping up to the plate in these unprecedented times. While the future remains uncertain as Governor Phil Murphy announced schools will stay closed until at least May 15, our commitment to learning is unwavering.
We've seen students hard at work on their laptops, practicing their reading skills before an "attentive audience" and beautiful artwork for our neighbors to enjoy.
We're also being sure to stay connected to our faith. The junior rosary society met virtually to pray the rosary and Mass at St. John's Church is livestreamed daily at www.facebook.com/sjrcbergenfield/. On April 3, Deacon Jim Detura acknowledged the Transfiguration Academy students and faculty at the First Friday Mass streamed at 9 a.m.
"The entire Transfiguration Academy family has come together during this crisis," said Principal James Carlo. "I don't think anyone realized on March 13, the last day we were in school in person, the severity of this pandemic or how long we would be apart. Everyone-teachers, students and parents-have done an amazing job learning, praying and supporting each other. Just another reminder of how we all live out our mission of strengthening faith, transforming minds and enlightening hearts."
If you're looking for tips to help your child flourish during this crisis, a School-At-Home Guide for Catholic Families can be found online at www.rcan.org/covid19.
We continue to pray for all those affected by this virus and for your continued safety. We look forward to the day when we can all gather together once again.
