Last Pumpkin Class This Year!

Monday, November 15th
12:30- 2:30pm
$75

It is great fun and you will leave with two pumpkins, one in a fall fabric (to learn technique) and one using vintage needlepoint, both with real stems.

To participate you will need one piece of needlepoint and sharp fabric scissors. It needs to be at least 12" x 12". It can be framed, a pillow, or chair seat. Details for prepping your piece will be given to you
when you sign up.

This is a great way to give that faded pillow grandma stitched new life!

Transform it into a pumpkin and celebrate her in all your Fall festivities!

Building in Color
Do you want to expand your skills from just knit and purl?

This incredibly striking sampler afghan is the perfect way to learn different stitches and techniques that make up the mystical world of colorwork!

Over the course of the class, you will gain confidence managing several colors at a time while knitting ten different panels: intarsia, short rows, slipped stitches, knit below, elongated stitches, mosaic, tuck stitch, and the butterfly stitch.
After the panels are knit, you will learn how to finish the afghan by blocking and seaming the panels. The final step is knitting the border.

Building in Color is a skill building class that has students knitting a different strip every month that can be seamed together to create a lovely sampler afghan.

The finished size of the afghan is approximately 52” wide by 42” tall. It is possible to modify the height by knitting shorter panels and modify the width by knitting fewer panels. For example, to make a baby blanket you could knit five panels.

Advanced Beginner Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work basic stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, simple increases/decreases, and follow written instructions.

Class meets monthly on the second Sunday of the month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (Eastern) with ongoing enrollment. Students starting the class may be in the company of other knitters further along.
Note: The $35 class fee is per session. However, not all sessions are required. Attendance is optional based on your needs or technique assistance.

Conquering Short Rows

Short rows are everywhere!

Until you learn to work them, they can seem intimidating. Don’t let that fear keep you from casting on for an amazing pattern. Short rows are partial rows of knitting that are worked to shape or curve sections of a piece of knitting, without increasing or decreasing stitches.

If you’ve ever put your knitting down, then picked it up and worked back the wrong way, you have knit a short row. You’ve also created a hole at the turning point. Short rows mitigate that hole to create a smooth transition.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to knit several different short rows methods. We will discuss the difference between the methods and how to substitute your favorite. There is a short row method for you!

Intermediate Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, read/follow a pattern, and work a variety of stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls.

Lunae Shawl

Lunae is a striking, contemporary, triangular shawl with horizontal and vertical mosaic bands. With mosaic knitting each row of knitting is done with only one color at a time. The stitches in the second color are slipped without being knitted. It’s the easiest form of colorwork!

First the upper body of the shawl is worked from side to side. Then stitches for the lower shawl body are picked up at the lower edge of the upper shawl body. From there the shawl is worked downwards with further shaping to get the elongated triangular shape of the shawl.

There are many interesting stitches and techniques to be covered in class including reading mosaic charts (the mosaic colorwork is only charted), increases, the star stitch, mosaic stitches, picking up stitches, adding a new color, weaving in ends as you knit, a stretchy bind off, and tassels (optional).

Intermediate Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, read/follow a pattern, and work a variety of stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls.

The class sessions have been spaced out to allow time for knitting, note different hours! Class meets on Wednesdays (Eastern):

January 12, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm
February 2, 2022 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm
March 2, 2022 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Needlepoint Finishing Guidelines

As finishers place more restrictions on accepting finishing, we are forced to add more guidelines for finishing.

We are making every effort to provide wonderful finishing in a timely manner at a reasonable price. Our finishing process is not what it was in 2019, but what is in this world? Please be patient, clear on what you want and be kind to our staff.

Blocking

If you stitch in continental your canvas must be blocked. Some canvases we received for finishing are so out of shape, they require blocking twice.

Basketweave if done in hand may need blocking. If you do not bring your work in blocked, depending on the need, we will either take it to Mayflower Cleaners in Princeton, and charge you the cost plus a charge for our staff to take it and pick it up, OR we send it out to a finisher who blocks. The finisher who will block is not guaranteeing any return date. Either way it will cost more in time and money.

Fabrics and Trims

Please bring in fabric and accessories you want used for your work. Ornaments require an uncut skein of thread for twisted cord. A two-color cord requires a skein of each color. We have a limited choice of fabric for the back of ornaments, feel free to supply your own or choose from what we have.

Stockings and cuffs need fabric for back and cording. (Cuffs, obviously need more.) If you are choosing a velvet, do not choose upholstery fabric with heavy backing. All stockings need coordinating light-weight fabric for lining.

Pillows require a 1/2 yard extra fabric for cording. All our finishers provide filler.
We have worked actively to help solve the finishing crisis for our customers. We have hired three finishers to finish needlepoint projects exclusively for our customers.
This is in addition to our pillow seamstress.

What can you do to help?

Please bring in your projects as soon as possible.

Provide fabric, ribbons, and accessories.

Have your piece blocked.

Be clear on your requests.

Be patient!

Please be prepared. Stitch gifts early! If you know you do an ornament for someone year after year, it is time to get started.

If you need help finding an ornament, please send us a theme and we will email you options. Write "Attn Bettie ornament" in subject line. in email write theme: baseball, snowman, candy can, etc.
Email Knitonestitchtoo@gmail.com and we will do our best to find you the perfect canvas.

We appreciate your patience. Please do not ask the store staff to call on any project that was sent out less than 8 weeks ago. Many vendors are taking phone calls twice a week at limited times. They will need to check with their staff
and get back to us.

Going Forward

We are still awaiting some finishing from last January! We are hoping to provide an 8 week turn around for standard pillows, stockings and ornaments; but cannot guarantee dates.

If we become overwhelmed with finishing we may be forced to turn away work for people who were not our customers before April 10, 2021.

Our goal is to provide the best service to our customers.

2020 Finishing History

We were very fortunate that among the scores of canvases we sent, those sent prior to the deadline came back and only 4 sent post deadline, did not arrive for the holidays. This was not the case across the country. Several finishers advised stores, although items were received by the deadline their finishers were waiting for supplies, record number of canvases were received, finishers became ill, or were delayed with children doing virtual schooling; as a result items would not be
coming back before the holidays.

Stay Well, Stay Safe, Be Prepared.
