Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. Introduction to BeekeepingDan Carr, owner of Beavertides Farm, takes you from the anatomy and social structure of honey bees to the basics of managing a hive, and teaches you about what it takes to start your very own beehive. Beavertides Farm is a sustainable livestock farm and apiary in Falls Village, CT. Besides raising sheep, goats and millions of honey bees, he and his wife, Maureen, teach classes in beekeeping, raising backyard chickens and other farming and homesteading related topics. On zoom.  Come help plan new programs and suggest new materials for the Library. Since we can't be together in person, we are sending the delicious meeting snacks home to you. Swing by for curbside pickup of your snack bag on Thursday or Friday (before 3:30 p.m.). We also will be discussing our Book Club book The Secret Sheriff of Sixth Grade. Grades 5 and up only. Thursday, February 25 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Spring Book Discussion Series. Retro-History: The Historic Novel. The spring 2021 book group will focus on four historical novels. We will consider how and to what extent authors are successful in rendering the past, and discuss what works and why. There is one sense in which all of our most famous works are historical fiction, starting with Homer and the Bible, but our four novels will be recent publications. They have been arranged in pairs, two novels that start out in the West Indies, two novels that involve Europe and Japan. This month's book is Augustown by Kei Miller. The discussion is conducted by Betty Krasne, PhD., writer, professor emerita, and longtime Kent resident. On Zoom. Please call the Library to register.

Friday, March 12 at 3:30 p.m. Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with a Fruit Loop Rainbow Craft and Storytime. Join us to learn about rainbows and where leprechauns live! Make a cool rainbow out of Fruit Loops for good luck on Saint Patrick's Day! Craft Kit will be available for curbside pickup Wednesday, March 10 through Friday, March 12. Monday, March 15 at 12:00 p.m. Learn to Top Graft Apples and Pears with Justin Potter - outdoor event. Join Kent Memorial Library as Justin Potter shows us 'gentle top grafting;' adding scionwood of one variety onto a well established tree of another variety, but without the major surgery involved with standard top grafting. Doing this, Justin has added about 40 varieties onto three apple trees since 2018. Participants will be able to see grafts of different ages, where on the tree they worked well - and where they didn't - and learn some things that Justin had to learn the hard way. Please register. Address will be provided upon registration. This program is live, outside, off site, and masks and social distancing are required. Rain date will be Friday, March 19.

For the Month of March, Golden Tickets will be placed randomly throughout books in the Junior Room. Check out as  many books as you like, have fun reading, and check your books for those Golden Tickets! If you find one, turn in your golden ticket for a prize! All ages welcome to participate. Third Annual Peep-o-Rama Contest
 
Starting March 1 and due April 8. Make a diorama at home with marshmallow peeps and submit a picture of your Peep-O-Rama to be displayed on our website. If you would like to use some of our crafting supplies for your diorama, please contact us. Public voting is April 9 through April 20. The winners will be announced April 22 and will receive a prize. All ages welcome to participate. Please email or call the Junior Room for more details.
