Valentine's Day is almost here!
  • Please DO NOT use candy as valentines.
  • NO candy or food is to be used attached to any valentines sent in for class distribution to other students.
  • Non-food parties are highly encouraged.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Kids with Food Allergies (KFA) recommend the use of non-food rewards when possible. The easiest way to ensure all children are safely included at school is to keep Valentine celebrations food-free. This promotes inclusiveness in the classroom. It also decreases the risk that a student could be exposed to an allergen. Celebrating without sugary, high-fat food and sweets is also healthier and consistent with the wellness policies in place in school.

See attached flyers for non-food Valentine's Day celebrations and safe ways to celebrate at home if your child has food allergies:

Message from the Nurse

We have seen an increase in illness in the community since our return after the holidays.  Please remember that cold and flu germs are spread from person to person by way of coughing, sneezing, touching, or simply talking.  Good hand  washing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of germs.  Please remember that cold and flu germs are spread from person to person by way of coughing, sneezing, touching, or simply talking. So wash those hands to spread fun but not germs! Please click on the links below for more helpful information.

A Message from Pomptonian

Dear Parents,

February is National Heart Month. A heart-healthy diet includes eating lots of fruits and veggies. This month, students will enjoy Pink Lady Apples from Yonder Fruit Farm and Parsnips from Dagele Brothers Farm as part of Pomptonian's Local Farm-to-Tray program. Students will enjoy the parsnips and Pink Lady apples during lunch on Thursday, February 13th.

Pink Lady apples, a tasty treat, have an incredibly long growing season, they hang on the tree for 200 days. Like most apples, they contain no fat or sodium and are good source of Vitamin C. Almost half of the vitamin C is found directly under the skin...so keep the skin on. Parsnips should receive the attention of a superfood. Why? They contain, 11% of the recommended dietary allowance for Vitamin C in just a half cup, along with containing fiber, Vitamin E, Folate, Magnesium, Potassium, and phosphorus.

What else is cooking? Please visit Summit Public Schools - School Nutrition And Fitness. Pomptonian is pleased to be Summit's food service provider, and we appreciate your comments and suggestions. You can reach us at [email protected]
