Catherine Wineinger: Republican Women are Becoming Key Party Messengers
Former CAWP graduate research assistant and current Western Washington University political scientist Catherine Wineinger wrote about women in the GOP taking prominent roles as public messengers for The Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog. The piece, which references CAWP analysis including Representation Matters: Women in the U.S. Congress (which Wineinger co-authored) and A Seat at the Table: Congresswomen's Perspectives on Why Their Presence Matters, explores the history of the role women play in GOP party positions, women as communicators, and ideological diversity among GOP women. "With minority-party status in Congress and a presidency to win, Republicans from each faction are testing party messages - and messengers," she writes. "Don't be surprised if you see more women in the spotlight." Read the full piece here.
"I'm Speaking!" Leading Ladies in American Politics
Next month, CAWP Visiting Practitioner Kimberly Peeler-Allen will take part in an event sponsored by Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum in cooperation with Heinrich Böll Stiftung Baden-Württemberg, in which she will focus on the causes and effects of gender inequality in politics, share her knowledge on how voters in the U.S. respond to women that are running for political offices, how this may have changed in the past, and what we can expect from the future. The virtual talk, which will be followed by a Q&A, will take place on March 9th at 1pm ET. Learn more and register here.
