Principals' Update: Letter to Incoming 6th and 7th Grade Families

Dear Families of incoming 6th and 7th grade students,

We hope that this letter finds you well. While we are getting ready to close out the 20-21 school year at CMS, we wanted you to know that you’ve been on our minds. We are excited to welcome BOTH 6th and 7th grade students to CMS this coming fall. We continue to make plans for your arrival. We are beginning to see some of the construction projects near completion and our campus is getting closer and closer to being ready for all of our new students.

We know starting middle school is new and exciting, and our goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible. You will have opportunities to start to make yourself at home in CMS. We’ve been planning for you to be able to come and explore your new school. Our plan includes self-guided tours and open houses. Below you will find a schedule of options where you’ll be able to come visit us.

At CMS, we take very seriously our commitment to teach students the “CMS Way,” which is to be safe, responsible and kind. With the addition of new students to CMS, we have a remarkable opportunity to build upon and strengthen our strong culture for learning and belonging. We will make this a priority with your students as they transition to CMS. Thank you for your partnership in this endeavor.

CMS Self-Guided Tours
We have set aside three days in July for families and students to visit the newly remodeled CMS! While the construction won’t be complete, we will be ready to host you for a self-guided tour, follow a planned route and learn what the renovated CMS has in store for its students. This is not a required event -- it is an opportunity for an early look at our remodeled school. Mr. Swenson or Mr. Larson will greet you and your student to start your tour. Note that the Performing Arts Center is the last phase of construction, and we expect it will be ready after the school year starts.

All times are 10 am to 6 pm:

  • July 20th: Incoming 6th grade students and families
  • July 21st: Incoming 7th grade students and families
  • July 22nd: Incoming 8th grade students and families

Open House at CMS
Students and families will be able to visit CMS for an open house on the following dates from 4-8pm.

  • August 26th: Incoming 8th grade students and families
  • August 31st: Incoming 7th grade students and families
  • September 2nd: Incoming 6th grade students and families

The purpose of our Open House event is to help students become familiar with their schedule and the building so that they are ready for the first day. Students will be able to find their classrooms and practice opening their lockers. In addition, we will have school supplies available for purchase as well as information on CMS activities. Finally, Jostens will be on site for students to get their school photos taken.

Curriculum Night
This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to visit each teacher to learn about the class, the curriculum, and expectations. More details on this event will be forthcoming. Here are the dates for your calendar:

  • September 14th: Incoming 6th grade parents/guardians
  • September 16th: Incoming 7th grade parents/guardians
  • September 21st: Incoming 8th grade parents/guardians

We look forward to seeing you soon! In the meantime, feel free to reach out with any questions you might have.
