EMERSON E-NEWS: SEPTEMBER

Hello Emerson Friends,

It is hard to believe that summer is ending and a new school year has already started. We have enjoyed a summer filled with awesome summer camps and group art exhibits. The transition into fall is always a busy time and can't wait to share all that is coming!

We are excited about our new exhibits and our continued partnerships with Gallatin Art Crossing and S.L.A.M. All three of our galleries exhibits turned over this month - see the details below. The north lawn will have two new sculptures installed in partnership with the Gallatin Art Crossing. Plus, we are partnering with S.L.A.M. to install a few large-scale paintings by three amazing local painters along the north lawn!

Enrollment for art education classes opens in mid-September! We are looking forward to offering engaging art education classes in person and online. Additionally, we are adapting some of the Emerson's annual events to ensure social distancing. Stop by to see the new exhibits, shop Galleria Hall, grab a bite to eat at Sidewall Pizza, or simply take a moment to enjoy this creative energy flowing through the building.

We appreciate everyone's efforts to stay connected with the Emerson. The safety and comfort of our community is our top priority as we move forward with classes, events, and gatherings. Your thoughts and concerns are a very important part of our decision-making process. There is an education survey linked in this month's newsletter. We hope you will take a couple of moments to let us know your thoughts and how we can better serve you.

With gratitude,

Susan Denson-Guy
Executive Director

The Emerson's Integrative Art Enrichment program offers working families balancing professional responsibilities, child care, and changes to schooling, a safe and healthy environment.

Students will learn about the elements and principals of art using the State of Montana's Art Standards. We will also heavily utilize arts integration methods to connect student's understanding of several subject matters through varied art forms, meeting evolving objectives in both.

Students enroll in monthly sessions, on a set day of week. Each class day runs 9 am - 4 pm, focusing on art integration curriculum with time for independent study, breaks, and gallery tours.

Annex Architecture
TYLER CALL, AIA

Growing up in Montana, Tyler knew at an early age he wanted to be an architect. He was fortunate to have influential mentors along the way and earned his masters degree right here in Bozeman. Tyler's career path has lead him to focus on residential architecture with projects ranging all over the mountain west, and working with clients around the world.

In addition to, and complimentary of architecture, Tyler has tried his hand at other artistic endeavors such as photography, painting, and furniture design. These have become other outlets to explore form and function while influencing his architectural design. As a sole-proprietor he finds that he needs a variety of creative outlets to stay energized and focused on the one he calls his career. For this reason the Emerson feels like home, being surrounded by other creative individuals working on a myriad of projects outside his expertise makes "going to the office" an enjoyable and unique experience.

New Mural in Studio Brenner
Studio 225
New tenants Kyle and Michelle Brenner have added a fresh coat of paint and a larger-than life character to studio 225 with a Banksy-inspired mural. The Brenners are taking over the space formerly held by Bridger Strings for 23 years. Kyle was one of the original Bridger Strings partners, helping build the three sound rooms in the studio. He taught music lessons there with Michael Certalic and Trevor Ostenson for several years before moving on.

The couple is delighted to be back in this familiar space and have enjoyed making it their own. Michelle uses one of the sound rooms as an art studio, while Kyle has adapted the other two sound rooms for acoustic and electric music lessons. The mural just inside their entrance took Michelle about 10 days to grid out and paint. She painted her first mural of a large chicken on their garage door in June. She loved it so much, she wanted to paint another one, blending art and music in their new studio space.

Kyle is currently holding music lessons online, but the studio is ready and waiting to welcome students as soon as it is safe to give lessons in person.
