Cloudy skies and a few rain showers didn't dampen the enthusiasm from Wednesday's round of returning Bearcats. With a staggered arrival schedule, registration at the MAC was more subdued, except for the increasingly competitive ball-toss tournament between the Olympians and Pythians! The two teams have been neck-to-neck; but yesterday the Pythians inched ahead, earning 9,255 points to edge out the Olympians' tally of 9,170. With only one day left of the contest, it is a toss up which team will claim ultimate victory.
In the afternoon, the new students who arrived on Tuesday joined in a range of outdoor activities with their designated dorm floor "pods" including badminton, soccer, frisbee, childhood favorites like "Red Light, Green Light" and "Where the Wind Blows," as well as leisurely campus walks, to help them ease into community life. New students also took part in two virtual orientation sessions that have been exercises in creativity and spontaneity. Orientation leader Nicole Ocampo Montoya '23 commented on Tuesday's session: "It was great seeing some new faces and getting to know all the new students. One of the highlights was the Bearcat competition in which the students tried to draw what they thought was a "bearcat!" Wednesday's returning students also attended a mandatory COVID-19 training via Zoom, and later in the evening all students had the chance to join in virtual activities such as Bingo, Minecraft, a Netflix watch party for "The Office," trivia, and even origami!
