Congratulations to CCSD93's Distinguished Educators!
At CCSD93, we consider each staff member an educator because all positively contribute to the education of each student and to CCSD93's Mission of maximizing the academic, social, and emotional potential of each student. This year, we introduced the CCSD93 Distinguished Educator Award, which is a peer-driven award for which all CCSD93 staff members are eligible. Colleagues were invited to nominate CCSD93 staff members by submitting thorough responses to each of the following prompts:
  • Using specific descriptions and examples, succinctly explain what qualities the nominee possesses and what activities have been undertaken on behalf of schools and students that qualify the nominee as deserving district-wide recognition.
  • How has the nominee demonstrated excellence in the fulfillment of duties?
  • How has the nominee demonstrated consideration for children?
  • What positive effect has the nominee had on the school environment?
  • How has the nominee shown leadership or inspired others to achieve?
  • How has the nominee gone above and beyond what would be expected in the fulfillment of duties?
The submissions were judged by CCSD93's senior leaders, and while I firmly believe in the abilities of all of our staff members, the applications for Mr. Bargamian, Mrs. Cyr, Mr. Kelmendi, and Miss McGill stood a step above in meeting the highest levels of the award's criteria.

Congratulations to each of our Distinguished Educators! We are truly a better organization because of their efforts. Over the next few weeks in this space I will highlight each for truly going above and beyond to meet in the best interests of students.
Middle School Student Satisfaction on the Upswing
As we continue to review CCSD93's Satisfaction Survey results from December's survey, today I focus on the Middle School Student results, which we use to inform decisions and guide improvement at the school and district levels.

I'm pleased to share with you that middle school student satisfaction saw upswings from last year in ratings for Overall Satisfaction with the School Year as well as School Principal. Conversely, we saw a dip in satisfaction for Computer Technology and there is still much room for improvement in the critical area of School Atmosphere.

As we continue to strive for excellence throughout the district, principals have used the data to identify key areas for improvement and created action plans for achieving that improvement.

See the Quick Glance view of our district-wide Middle School Satisfaction Survey scores above. You'll see more of these for each school begin to pop up on school websites in the coming weeks. For more on these scores, visit www.ccsd93.com/satisfaction
As always, please visit www.ccsd93.com/COVID19 for a number of resources for students, parents, and families.

iReady Adaptive Assessment Goes Live on 5/11
When students in Kindergarten through 8th grade login to i-Ready Math on Monday, May 11th, they will be presented with the i-Ready Math Diagnostic.

The i-Ready Math Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment, which means it adjusts its questions to suit your child's needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

The results are used by i-Ready to create a path of learning lessons and activities that match the student's current level. The goal of students participating in the assessment is to offer an updated path that meets individual learning needs. The results of the spring iReady Math assessment will NOT be used as a grade or for class placements. Students will have the opportunity to continue working on iReady Math over the summer.

We realize the assessment environment at home will not be the same as when the students are taking the assessment at school. Parents should allow students to work independently on the assessment.  This is important in order for students to receive an appropriate learning path. Brain breaks are built into the assessment. These might look like games or movement activities. Parents should allow the student to play the games or participate in the movement activity. When it is over, the assessment will resume. Parents are encouraged to remind students to do their best but not to stress.
Instrumental Music Updates!
Join Band & Orchestra
CCSD93 has tremendous Band and Orchestra programs with nearly 600 combined students enrolled. Orchestra starts in the fall for 4th graders while Band starts for 5th graders. Current 3rd and 4th graders are invited to start thinking about joining!

The current circumstances have changed how we are able to reach students and families, however, we are getting ready to share information, videos, and websites in the coming weeks with details about how to join! We know many students have seen friends, neighbors and siblings participate and have been eagerly awaiting their turn to pick an instrument.

Instrument descriptions and choices will be out soon, and families of current 3rd and 4th graders will be invited to make decisions between now and the fall. Look for more information coming soon as we are committed to ensuring every child will have access to the instrument they want. In the meantime, parents are invited to reach out to the following with any and all questions your family might have:

Celebrating Band & Choir
The final Band and Choir concerts for this year were originally scheduled for this week. While we had to forego the shows, we celebrate our graduating Band and Choir members!
  • May 5 would have been Stratford's end of the year theme concert and all school assembly.  For the Cinco de Mayo theme, students worked on Latin music and were going to decorate their instruments and music with ribbons in the colors of the Mexican flag.  Mrs. Steinke, Mrs. Savino & Mr. Brachmann are so sorry the kids didn't get a chance to show everyone their hard work.  They are proud of their students and wish them well as they shelter in place. Here's the show's original program!
  • May 7 would have been the final Jay Stream Band Concert. Mrs. Dandeles and Mrs. Savino are incredibly proud of all of our band students and the work they did this year. Here are images celebrating the students!
Remote 5th Grade Band Concert!
Elementary Band students were invited to contribute to a 5th Grade Band concert from home this week! Here are some musician submissions!
