Week of March 1, 2021

Good Afternoon CCGS Families,

The melting snow and sunshine have certainly brightened up the spirits of our students and staff this week! It is amazing what a little more sunshine can do. We had a great week at school and our students are learning more and growing more each and every day. This week we saw students practicing fluency through Reader's Theatre, writing about their future careers, battling it out in the Battle of the Books competition in third grade, doing math centers, and working hard on place value and regrouping. I also got to visit some remote classes this week where students were working on their writing and discussing the moral of a fairy tale.

March is National Women's History month and students will learn about one important woman from history each day over morning announcements.

Please upload any of your February photos to this album. Saturday will be the last day to add pictures as I will be making our February video this weekend. If you'd like to check out our January video please click here.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family!

Possible Bus Delays: March 1-2
Yorkville CUSD 115 and its bus company, Septran, have worked diligently with county health officials to ensure that eligible bus drivers and transportation employees are able to receive the vaccine for COVID-19. These vaccinations will provide another measure of safety for the district’s school bus passengers.
More than 20 bus drivers are scheduled to receive their second vaccine shot on Sunday, February 28. Since the second shot has been known to produce flu-like symptoms, there is a possibility that it could result in a driver shortage and longer travel times, as drivers may be need to cover multiple routes. The normal protocol of sending notices to families of delays greater than 10 minutes will continue. Parents are encouraged to consider driving their child(ren) to school next week on Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2 to avoid any potential delays.
Please email Director of Business Services Mike Vargas with any questions and/or concerns regarding this matter ([email protected]).

  • If your remote learner is walking or running at home towards our steps goal, please email [email protected] at the end of the week with the total miles walked. If you are walking as a family and your child comes to school you can send it on a note with your child.

Ms. Strait's Classroom Highlight of the Week

Hi Families,

This week in our classroom we were thankful for the warm weather so we could go outside everyday for recess and play in the snow. Everyone was very excited about our new brain break- Desk Drumming. We are using foam rollers to do guided movements to popular songs- this week was "We Will Rock You". We have been working on reading fairy tales and fables the last few weeks. This week we have focused on different fables and learning about all what makes a fable and what a moral is. All week students have been working in groups to practice putting on different Readers Theatre fables. This was a great activity to practice our oral reading fluency and they did great! We have been working hard on our figurative language skills and talking about how we can find similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia in poetry and other stories. In math we have started working on using different strategies such as mental math or number lines to solve triple digit subtraction.  In science we have just started exploring different states of matter and are preparing for some science experiments in the upcoming weeks.
Thanks!
