What's Happening Now...
Road, Sidewalk and Pathway Construction  
 
The City of Novi prides itself on maintaining open lines of communication and keeping community members apprised of the latest in road and  non-motorized construction projects. 

The following information is intended to provide an overview of current projects.

Please note: All completion dates are merely estimates. Projects could extend beyond those dates due to unforeseen issues with the project and inclement weather.
Oakland County Transportation  Updates


RCOC  will be removing and replacing the concrete roadway at the intersection of 12 Mile and Novi Road. On Novi Road, the roadway will be replaced approximately 50 feet north of 12 Mile and approximately 250-feet south of 12 Mile. The project will also include sidewalk ramp and pedestrian signal upgrades. The project will occur in two stages. During Stage 1, the outside lane of 12 Mile will be open in each direction and only right turns will be allowed from southbound and northbound Novi Road. During Stage 2, one inside lane of 12 Mile will be open in each direction. Novi Road will be completely closed north and south of 12 Mile Road. Project is expected to start on June 17.
Estimated completion date: August 15, 2019

RCOC will be doing pavement preventative maintenance on 10 Mile Road, from Haggerty to Pontiac Trail this summer. Project will involve spot milling of the existing asphalt at curb lines and entrance approaches and placing two-inches of asphalt pavement over top the entire roadway. Project is expected to start some time after June 17.
Estimated completion date: July 15, 2019

RCOC  will be doing pavement preventative maintenance on Haggerty Road, from 8 to 9 Mile Roads. The project will involve spot milling of the existing asphalt at curb line and entrance approaches and placing two-inches of asphalt pavement over top the entire road way. Project is expected to start July 15.
Estimated completion date: July 30, 2019

RCOC is replacing the existing culverts at two Seeley Drain crossings of Haggerty Road, north of 13 Mile Road and MacKenzie Drive. While under construction, Haggerty Road will be closed at the culvert locations. Project is expected to start July 8.
Estimated completion date: August 16, 2019
City of Novi Projects


The first half of Rossdale Court has been removed and replaced and is awaiting cure before crews can work on the other side. The first half of Addington Lane has been removed from Elizabeth to Jaslyn lanes. Rossdale Court is expected to be wrapped up in the next two weeks and Addington Lane in the next three weeks. Work on Woodside Court is expected to start after the holiday.

The base course of asphalt was placed on Heatherbrae Way S last week and the plan was to base asphalt Singh Boulevard later this week. Crews will then mill Siegal next Wednesday and then place the final lift on all three streets at one time. The goal is to have all of Turtle Creek streets substantially complete by the end of next week. The contractor also is working on the second half of concrete curb on Anchorage Court and Crestwood Drive is Island Lake this week and plan to place asphalt later in the week or early next week. Vero Court is slated to start on Tuesday after the holiday.
Estimated completion date: May 31, 2019 (for Turtle Creek streets); November 1, 2019 (for overall program)

The contractor is expected to begin on Tuesday, May 28 at Waycroft Drive, Courtview Trail and Roxbury Drive.

The contractor completed the new asphalt on Dinser and Delmont Drives last week, which will also receive a single layer of chip and fog seal once the ambient temperature has reached warmer levels. Asphalt patches have also been completed on Brenda Lane and Joseph Drive. Again, the contractor will return to complete the chip and fog seals of all the streets when temperatures get warmer.

Removal of all existing stumps and debris is now complete. The contractor has also completed the stripping and stockpiling of top soil. Next is constructing the embankment for the east side of Crescent Boulevard, as well as start installing the sheet wall along the Middle Rouge River or along the west side of Crescent Boulevard and north side of the industrial spur.

The City will be rehabbing Cabot Drive, from 12 Mile to 13 Mile Roads and Lewis Drive, from Cabot Drive to Haggerty Road. It will include the milling of the existing concrete road, fixing the existing concrete panel joints and topping the roadways with 3-inches of new asphalt pavement. Project is expected to start July 15.
Estimated completion date: September 15, 2019

The contractor has completed the installation of the dewatering system, installation of several well points along the proposed sewer near Nine Mile and Garfield Roads has begun to draw down the water table in the area. This could take up to two weeks. Also, the contractor has begun to excavate two large shafts which are needed to begin directional drilling the new sewer. Another section, west of Garfield Road will be open-cut.
Estimated completion date: January 27, 2020

The City will be performing rehab on 30+ storm sewer manholes located within the South Lake Drive roadway from 13 Mile Road to West Park Drive. No detours will be used, but motorists can expect delays as the contractor moves along the roadway. Project is expected to start June 17. 
Estimated completion date: July 31, 2019

The City will be doing preventative maintenance on three roadway bridges located on West Park Drive, between 12 Mile and West Road; Meadowbrook Road, between Chattman Drive and Nine Mile Road; and Cranbrooke Drive, between 10 Mile and Village Wood Road. Project is expected to start September 1.
Estimated completion date: November 1, 2019

The City will be upgrading the traffic signals at 14 Mile and Haggerty Roads and Pontiac Trail and Beck Road. Each intersection will be retrofitted with new mast arms and LED signal heads. Also all legs will have updated pedestrian facilities to include new sidewalk ramps and push button crosswalk signals. Project is expected to start July 1.
Estimated completion date: April 1, 2020

In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.
