The outbreak of COVID-19 can result in stress, especially for students who may be struggling to process fear and anxiety related to the virus.  FVSD's Support Services team of School Counselors and School Psychologists has compiled information on our site which may be helpful for students and families.  Included are resources for talking to students about COVID-19 and coping with stress.  Moreover, links and information on FVSD's mental health and wellness resources, including CareSolace, Outreach Concern and our middle school counselors, are available.  Lastly, there are a number of community healthy partners and emergency resources included for our families.  For all of our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site here.

On Thursday, February 11th, the Board of Trustees had the opportunity to celebrate some very special middle school students during their regular Board meeting.  Our Middle School Extravaganza was the chance to honor six outstanding students from each of our middle schools.  From Talbert Middle School, the Board celebrated Payton Koch (6th), Jackson Solis (6th), Cameron Cox (7th), Tam-Anh Vu (7th), Jayden Rodriguez (8th) and Miles Dayley (8th).  Principal Jennifer Morgan, Assistant Principal Molly Kuykendall and the Talbert teachers highlighted the unique ways in which each of these students stands out amongst their peers through a video.

From Masuda Middle School, the Board honored Alan Do (6th), Katelyn Smith (6th), Brandon Lam (7th), Amanda Orliczky (7th), Brandon Clausi (8th) and Karen Mekhaiel (8th).  Principal Jay Adams and Assistant Principal Matt Ploski joined the Masuda teachers in celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of these students through a video

From Fulton Middle School, the Board recognized Audrey Le (6th), Cole Korhonen (6th), Katelyn Tran (7th), Isaac Squires (7th), Jacquelyn Nguyen (8th) and Tien Dan (8th).  Principal Erin Bains and Assistant Principal Julie Gonzales, along with the Fulton teachers, honored these students and their extraordinary successes this year with a video.

To all of our honored middle school students, CONGRATULATIONS!
SPOTLIGHT: FV Rotary Honors Outstanding Students at Most Improved Student Celebration
Rotary MIS
Fountain Valley School District has always had a fantastic community partner in the Fountain Valley Rotary Club.  Their support of our staff, students and programs is unwavering.  And with the return of their Most Improved Student celebrations, Fountain Valley Rotary allows us the opportunity to celebrate some amazing students in a truly special way.

Starting in January, Fountain Valley Rotary has invited a student from one of our middle schools to join students from Fountain Valley High School and Valley Vista High School, along with their families, to be honored for their unique ability to overcome diversity and face challenges with determination and grit, through its Most Improved Student celebrations.  Students honored this year include: Kayden Pheasant from Fulton Middle School, Cosmo Boehm from FVSDConnected and Lincoln Vina from Masuda Middle School.  These students were celebrated for their extraordinary efforts in the face of great obstacles.  And while holding these celebrations via zoom may not seem ideal, a screen can't hide the pride of these students and their families.  Parents cheered while their student's teachers, principal and assistant principal sang their praises.  It is by far the best start to any Tuesday morning and it is all because of Fountain Valley Rotary.

In challenging times, we look for ways to celebrate our successes and the students honored by Rotary's Most Improved Student celebrations are an undeniable cause for applause!
HIGHLIGHT: Gisler Elementary Welcomes Congresswoman Michelle Steel for Opportunity to Spotlight Staff, Students and Programs
Congresswoman Michelle Steel
Recently, FVSD had the pleasure of hosting U.S. Congresswoman, Michelle Steel, at Gisler Elementary School to share some of the many successes and challenges of reopening schools.  Congresswoman Steel sits on the Subcommittee for Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, and it was wonderful to highlight the programs/services we continue to provide for our students and families, even during this pandemic.  Joining Congresswoman Steel were Trustees Sandra Crandall, Jim Cunneen and Jeanne Galindo, Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson, and Gisler Principal, Teri Malpass.  We so appreciate Congresswoman Steel's visit, as it allowed us to showcase the amazing students, staff, families, and community who have worked together to ensure the safest and highest levels of learning environments possible.  We are extremely proud of our District's efforts and want to thank everyone for continuing to exemplify the true meaning of the FVSD Family as we continue to face these challenges together.
