BankGloucester is pleased to announce that voting in our 14th Annual “Banking for the Community” program will begin on September 1 and end on September 30. Over the past thirteen years, through this program, the Bank has awarded $225,000 to dozens of deserving non-profit and community organizations. This year the Bank will award a total of $25,000 to 21 organizations. Community votes will determine how the funds are allocated. Voting will take place via our online and paper ballots and will be available for completion at each branch location.

Cape Ann Mass in Motion is launching the Walk the Loop, Circle the Cape 2021 Walking Challenge, and encourages community members age 65 and up to participate. The challenge is sponsored by Cape Ann Mass in Motion along with Cape Ann Seniors on the GO and SeniorCare, Inc., as well as the Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester and Essex Councils on Aging (COA). The challenge begins Sept. 1 and ends Oct. 31. To sign up, residents must call or make an in-person visit to their local COA. Participants will be provided with a free walking journal to track their progress. The journal includes helpful information about milestone badges, local walking options, safety tips, and walking health benefits. Residents can pick up a walking journal at their local COA, at the Chamber of Commerce, or request to have one sent to them by mail. Residents can access the walking journal online here.

This diverse 17-piece big band entertains and delights audiences with danceable music infused with jazz, swing, New Orleans street bands, soul, and rock n’ roll that will bring you back in time. Their program includes such classics as “Mack the Knife,” “I’ve Got You Under my Skin,” and “Take the A Train.”

This will be a truly unique program that will premier all new music written by Ipswich composers Tom Palance, Chris Florio, G. Paul Naeger, David Andrew Moore and Jerry Gates. Each piece has collaborative elements featuring local artists working with film, poetry, dance and animation. These are all original pieces being performed for the first time.

Start the fall off right with our Family Fun Cornhole Tournament to be held at the Glen T Macleod YMCA. Teams of 2 will compete in a round-robin style tournament, playing games to 21 following regulation rules. Food and local beverage sponsors will be available on site.

On September 12 Essex's town baseball field will be formally named for Essex resident Annie Gosbee.  Annie was a tremendous athlete who fought her way onto some local boys baseball teams in the late 1940's. She worked long hours as a teenager to help fund her dream to try out for the All American Professional Girls Baseball League, the organization made famous in the movie "A League of Their Own" and recognized by the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. The festivities will begin at 11 am with an informal friendly girls softball game played in Annie's honor.  The actual naming ceremony will begin at 12:30 pm. Hot dogs will be served!

In recent seasons, David Finckel and Wu Han have appeared frequently with violinist Philip Setzer—David Finckel’s colleague in the legendary Emerson String Quartet for more than three decades—in performances of the piano trio literature.
