Our Mayor's Got Talent!
We all know that Palmetto Bay's got talent and it starts with our Mayor, Karyn Cunningham.

Mayor Cunningham is featured in the 24th Edition of the Book of Leaders, published by Miami Today. The Book of Leaders is an annual publication which highlights Miami's best 52 South Floridian achievers and it is essential a compilation of men and women who "are shaping the development of Greater Miami" and "who collectively constitute a contemporary Hall of Fame for Greater Miami."

Many of you know Mayor Cunningham personally, but did you know that it was her job with United Teachers of Dade that sparked her interest in politics? After 18 years of teaching, Mayor Cunningham left the classroom to work for United Teachers of Dade where she learned of her passion and desire to serve the community.

In 2012, she tried her first bid for office in Palmetto Bay. While the community liked her message, she was not well known. In 2015, she took the lessons learned from that campaign and won Councilmember for Seat 1 in the Village Council. After serving four years as Councilmember, she ran and won the Mayoral seat in Palmetto Bay in 2018.

As she continued her political career in the Village, she never forgot the lesson from that first campaign. Constituents have a need to know their elected officials and to know that their leaders will be responsive, “The residents deserve to have somebody who’s accessible, someone they can reach out to and know that they’re going to get a response” said Mayor Cunningham.

Besides giving us insights into her start in politics and the Village of Palmetto Bay, in the article, Mayor Cunningham also talks about her family and about her vision for the Village, its greatest assets, traffic and transportation, and more…

“I am honored to be part of this group, not just as a community leader, but also a woman in politics and as an educator, hope that in reading our stories, we all serve as models to other burgeoning leaders.”

Thank you Mayor Cunningham, you make us #PalmettoBayProud!
