Dear FVS Families,

I hope everyone had a restful break and is excited to begin the second semester. We’ve been working steadily throughout the break to prepare for your arrival and we can’t wait to see you all in person! Our goal is a safe return to in-person learning and the information contained herein about our return to campus, quarantine, and testing protocols are a critical part of realizing this goal.

Please review the following travel and arrival information to help ensure that your return to campus is as safe and smooth as possible. This message is being sent to all boarding students and their parents. If you are a boarding student, but are attending via distance learning, we are sharing this for future reference should you be able to return in person.

If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms prior to your departure, please remain home, contact your primary healthcare provider, and advise the Deans’ Office of the change to your travel plans.

Airports and Travel
Please communicate all travel plans and/or changes to the Deans’ Office in a timely manner, including shuttle requests by emailing deansoffice@fvs.edu. In order to mitigate the risks of traveling during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Students must wear masks in airports and during flights
  • Students traveling to campus by car must wear masks at all gas stations, restaurants, and hotels
  • Students should wash their hands frequently with soap and water or with hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. We encourage students to travel with their own bottle of hand sanitizer.
  • Students should practice physical distancing while traveling as best they can

Airport Shuttles and Taxis
Fountain Valley School will offer shuttles for students to travel to campus from Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport. Please contact the Deans’ Office at deansoffice@fvs.edu to make arrangements. Alternatively, students may hire a taxi or private car service at their own expense.

  • Students must continue to wear masks at all times in airports and on shuttles
  • On FVS shuttles, students must sit one person per seat in order to maintain physical distancing
  • Unaccompanied minors must notify the Deans’ Office to coordinate a pickup. There is an additional cost for unaccompanied minors.

Campus Arrival
Students may arrive on January 9th, 10th, or 11th and preferably between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Students must check in at the Campus Center immediately upon arrival and then go directly to their residence hall
  • Parents and family members are not permitted in residence halls, or any other school buildings
  • Everyone traveling with students to campus must complete the visitor declaration form upon arrival, wear a mask at all times while on campus, and practice physical distancing
  • Students must wear masks and practice physical distancing anytime they are out of their room including while in residence hall common areas
  • All students must arrive before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11th

On-Campus Quarantine & Testing
All boarding students will quarantine with their residential hall cohorts from their arrival on January 9th, 10th, or 11th until Sunday, January 24th. The goal of our quarantine and testing program is to ensure a safe return to in-person learning on Monday, January 25th. We have made some changes to our quarantine protocol to expand outdoor time and enhance the dining experience. On Monday, January 11th and then again on Thursday, January 21st, all students will receive a COVID-19 test administered by the FVS nursing staff.

  • Students may move about within their assigned dorm as long as they wear a mask and practice physical distancing and will have free access to a designated space outside the dorm.
  • Students will have regularly scheduled and supervised outside activities, but must otherwise remain in their residence hall
  • Students will walk to the dining room during their scheduled meal times as a residential hall cohort, choose their food as they would during a normal meal service, and return to their residence hall to eat in their rooms
  • Temperature checks will be performed in the morning and evening
  • Students must complete the REACH symptoms survey each morning
  • Students will be tested for COVID on an ongoing basis throughout the second semester following a schedule that will ensure that all members of the community are tested every two weeks
