Dear Friend,
Join us tomorrow, March 5, for a series of virtual events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Winston Churchill's "Sinews of Peace" speech at Westminster College. Commonly known as the "Iron Curtain" speech, the address rocked a war-weary world and ushered in the Cold War.
George F. Will, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post columnist, will deliver the 34th Enid and R. Crosby Kemper Lecture, leading a distinguished lineup of historians, authors, and other notables. The ceremonies will also include expert panel discussions, video salutes, the debut of an intriguing documentary, and the virtual exhibit, Sinews of Peace: The Power of Prose.
The program will be streamed live online and offered free to the public, but registration is required.

10 a.m. — The Churchill-Truman Legacy |

The two-day program will begin with a live discussion between two grandchildren of Churchill and Truman, artist Edwina Sandys and author and actor Clifton Truman Daniel. Their discussion will be moderated by Museum director Timothy Riley with special guest, Kurt Graham, director of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library.

11 a.m. — Winston Churchill Leadership Medal Award Presentation |
|
|
|
Healthcare executive, veteran, humanitarian, philanthropist, and Churchill Fellow Dr. Monroe E. Trout, of Appleton, WI, will be awarded the Winston Churchill Medal for Leadership, the highest honor awarded by America’s National Churchill Museum.

12 p.m. — 34th Enid and R. Crosby Kemper Lecture — "Churchillian Realism"
|

|
|
Will’s lecture and other activities will concentrate on Churchill and his prescient speech as well as why he came to Fulton 75 years ago.

3 p.m. — World Premiere of Documentary Franta & Winston

World premiere of a new documentary by Steve Stinson about Czech-British sculptor Franta Belsky and his iconic statue of Winston Churchill commissioned by the Museum and unveiled in 1971 on the 25th Anniversary of the "Sinews of Peace."

3:45 p.m. — Sinews of Peace: The Power of Prose
|
|
|
|
A virtual exhibition examining the near-final draft of the "Iron Curtain" speech in the collection of America's National Churchill Museum. Typewritten with final hand-written additions dictated by Churchill to his secretary Jo Sturdee, the draft reveals Churchill's last-minute changes, rhetorical flourishes, and edits to the famous speech. The exhibit was created by America’s National Churchill Museum and students at Westminster College in Fulton, MO.

Saturday, March 6
8 a.m. — C-SPAN Washington Journal Live from Museum
C-SPAN's Washington Journal will devote a live hour-long program about the "Sinews of Peace" from America's National Churchill Museum. To watch Washington Journal, please check your cable provider for C-SPAN3 (replay also airing at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.); it will not be livestreamed by the Museum.
