First Friday Potluck - TOMORROW
February 7 - 6:00-8:00PM
 
This monthly event is entirely social-an informal time to get together and enjoy the company of other church members. February's event is hosted by Regan & Nikos Christopoulos at 1320 Linden Avenue in Highland Park. Bring a dish to share and they will provide beverages.

On the same evening, First Friday Faves is happening for 5th-8th graders from 6:00-7:30 at Glow Golf in Vernon Hills. Please contact Megan for details on Glow Golf. 
Teddy Bear Sunday - February 9
 
Please bring a new or gently used teddy bear (or other stuffed animal. As Episcopalians we like to include all of God's creatures) to church on Sunday, February 9. Teddy bears, etc. will be blessed at both services, after which, they will be donated to the Department of Children and Family Services. Your donated teddy bears will serve as gifts for abused or displaced children.
 
If you do not have a teddy bear to donate please bring money to buy one!  Stop by in the Prevost Cloister where you will be able to purchase teddy bears from Rummage, ranging in price from $5-$30.
"The Long Shadow" - Special Screening
Sunday, February 9 - 3:30 -5:00PM
This stirring movie follows two southern filmmakers as they trace their southern roots.Their journey reveals how the shameful legacy of slavery provides context for our country's current struggle with racism. The movie has a PG-13 rating and includes difficult images.Afterwards, we encourage you to allow yourself time to enjoy the service of Taizé at 5:30. 

Complimentary childcare will be provided in the Nursery from 3:15-6:30.

Taizé Service 5:30PM - Sunday, February 9
If you are in need of an hour of quiet prayer and meditation, please join us for a time of grace and peace. This candlelit, contemplative service will include readings, prayers, and silence interspersed with tuneful chants accompanied by violin. We'll be holding Taizé services this coming season on the following second Sundays of the month at 5:30PM: March 8, May 10. (Taizé will not be held on April 12 - Easter Sunday)

 
"Finding God after Sunday: Mentoring on the West Side"  
Connections - Thursday, February 13 - 5:30-7:15PM
 
This evening we will host a panel discussion with Erwin Mayer, Executive Director of St. Leonard's Ministries, Gary Martin, Christ Church parishioner and mentor at St. Leonard's, Carmen Wilcox, parishioner and our longest active mentor at Grace House, and Heather, one of Carmen's former mentees who is leading a successful and productive life. Come share in their stories about this vital ministry changing lives on Chicago's west side - one soul at a time. Supper is served from 5:30-6:15PM in the McClain Room followed by the presentation from 6:15-7:15PM. Childcare is available in the Nursery.
Climate Change Discussion Group - Sun. February 23 - After the 9:30AM Service

What can one person/one family do? Come to the Lea Room after the 9:30AM service on Sunday, February 23 and share your ideas, thoughts, best practices, etc. This lay-led group is being started by parishioner Cleo Castillo. If you have questions, please contact Cleo at 224-435-6972.

Inaugural Gathering - Peace & Justice Committee - Sunday, February 23 - 5:30PM

In October a small group of parishioners attended a 2.5 day workshop "Understanding and Analyzing Systemic Racism" and were moved to do and learn more. Come for supper on Sunday, February 23 at 5:30PM at the home of Jenny Smith & Eric Hillerbrand at 634 Prairie Ave. in Wilmette and help brainstorm about how we can bring this kind of ministry to Christ Church. Please RSVP to Charlotte McGee.

TOMORROW - February First Friday Faves

Our next First Friday Fave is tomorrow, February 7 from 6-7:30pm at the Glow Golf in Vernon Hills! There will be glow golf, a laser maze, and pizza. $15/person. All 5th through 8th graders and their friends are invited; high schoolers needed as volunteer leaders. Thank you to Nicole Rivera who is helping us host this month! We will meet at Glow Golf in the Hawthorn Mall at 122 Hawthorn Center, Vernon Hills, IL, 60061.
Soul Fuel - Cupid's Cookies for College Students
Sunday, February 9 at 4PM

For our next Soul Fuel meeting we will be creating Valentine's Day care packages for our over 40 college students! We will decorate cookies, make Valentine cards, and assemble the packages. Click here for the Sign-Up Genius for the baked goods and care package contributions. We will meet on Sunday, February 9 at 4PM at Alison Walker's house: 859 Sheridan Road, Winnetka. Soul Fuel is our high school youth group that meets the second Sunday of every month. Friends are always welcome!
Lent Passport 2020

Be sure to pick up this year's Lent Passport at the Pancake Supper February 25 or at one of the Ash Wednesday services February 26!

Thanking our First Responders, Tuesday, March 3, 3:30
 
We invite your children to join us for a fun service project we are offering in partnership with The Alliance for Early Childhood.
 
Children and their parents/caregivers are invited to the McClain Room Tuesday, March 3, 3:30-4:15, to make creative thank you cards and treat baskets for our local police and firefighters, to thank them for keeping our communities safe! A delicious and healthy after school snack will be served. This is for the whole community, so please bring friends, Brownie troops, Cub Scout dens, etc.! For age 5 and over.
Please RSVP to Melissa Durbin as we have a limited capacity for this event.
