Help the Lafayette Community Foundation Help Others
During this unprecedented health crisis, the
Lafayette Community Foundation is holding a COVID-19 community matching fund campaign. For the past 20 years, the Foundation has been giving “excellence grants” to local nonprofits that provide services to the elderly and their caregivers, to the disabled, and the hungry. It has also given grants to those who provide music, theater, and art, all of which bring joy and help reduce stress in our lives. Under the present circumstance, these organizations are now in desperate need of assistance themselves. You can help our local treasures by donating online at
https://lafayettecf.org/donate/ or by mailing a check to Lafayette Community Foundation, P.O. Box 221, Lafayette, CA 94549.

Volunteer Surge
Rotary International, with partnerships crafted with Red Cross and a host of organizations and community members (both academic and business) is looking for ways to support the volunteer efforts so critical to this COVID challenge we all face in both the United States and Canada. Volunteer Surge was established less than three weeks ago, with partners including the Yale School of Public Health, ADP WorkMarket, Salesforce, Amazon Web Services, GoFundMe®, and The Global Impact Group, to provide free, online training of volunteer community health workers to perform the most basic caretaking tasks for vulnerable people so that professionals can focus on the most acute needs. Volunteer Surge’s goal is to train 1,000,000 volunteers as soon as possible. The Global Impact Group, a Rotary-related non-profit, has all you need to know to register your interest in becoming a volunteer. For more information, go to

Earth Day Celebration 2020 - Celebrate Spring with Flutter-Flies-Butterflies!
The Lafayette Community Garden - Outdoor Learning Center was scheduled to have an Earth Day Open House at the garden. During that celebration we were planning to celebrate the wonder of butterflies and their amazing transformation from caterpillars to flying beauties. In that same spirit, and due to the shelter in place restrictions, we invite you to make your own “Flutter-Flies” and, if so inspired, hang them about your garden or neighborhood for a virtual Community Celebration. All you need to get started are assorted papers, scissors, a pencil for tracing, a stapler, and some string or yarn to hang them by.
Here you will find a project plan, examples, potential materials to use, and suggestions for engaging your family and hopefully community. Let’s make a visual celebration of our lovely butterfly pollinators and let them bring joy by sailing throughout our neighborhoods. Have fun and feel free to forward the project plan to friends and family. Sincerely Yours, Lafayette Community Garden Members
