SNOW IS INHERENTLY NOSTALGIC
There is nothing to match the pristine blanket of snow that covers Lake Sunapee and the surrounding woods and mountains just after a blizzard.  The sights and sounds in the days following a storm are familiar... the chip, chip, chip of the snow shovel as neighbors dig out a car breaks the silence. The robin spotted in the backyard feasting on holly berries. Dogs tenderly walking in boots and jackets make me smile as my snow loving dog is gleefully tunneling thru snow drifts. This is the time to put a pot of hearty soup on the stove and simply enjoy the picturesque views from the window. Accomplishment enough. With snow, the world slows down… and so should we all. Appreciate the quiet.

SNOW DAYS
Snowmen are dotting the landscape and Bob-houses, the lake.
Winter hiking and tracking at The Fells, and ASLPT marked trails are a favorite pastime. Want to go out and do some of your own tracking?
Fortunately Mt. Sunapee does not mimic Mt. Washington which was the 2nd coldest spot in the world last Saturday!
Not to be out done by sledding kids and dogs… the Giant Pandas at the National Zoo, show off their technique.
WINTER DAYS
For those choosing to stay close to home and hearth on blustery winter days, the Abbott, The Tracy and the Newbury libraries each offer curbside pick-up for your next read.
At Richards Library in Newport you may check out “Binge Boxes” of movies. (Encourage the kids to join in their 1st Annual Read-A-Thon)
Ideas for how to spend a day off.

With work life encroaching on our private life, do we really have days off? Use this opportunity to take care of little things we never get around to. Knock one item off your “to do list”. Write that holiday “thank-you note“, long overdue, organize the ‘junk drawer’ every kitchen has... return a phone call or email... update your digital profile... try a new recipe (salted pretzel brownies. Yum!). Promise you’ll feel better for the accomplishment. Or not!
Maybe today is just a stay-in-bed-and-binge “Veep” again kind of day. That sounds wonderful, too.
LET'S GET ARTSY
(while staying at home)
Frozen Winter artworks by an industrious spider.

UNTIL NEXT WEEK
Stay safe, stay positive, listen, learn, share. Schedule your vaccine appointment. If you have a problem, the Abbott library staff will help walk you through the process. Remember to connect virtually with friends and family as much as you can… that may be the best remedy yet for cabin fever.
HAVE HOPE
Spring arrives in 31 days.
